The Indonesian government is expediting its national digital transformation by targeting the operational trial of National Data Center Indonesia (PDN 1) starting June 2025. This initiative is a key step toward delivering secure, efficient, and transparent public services.
"PDN is a vital foundation for strengthening the government's digital ecosystem. We are working closely with Bappenas and other ministries to ensure an integrated and sustainable system," said Minister of Communication and Digital, Meutya Hafid, during a meeting with the Minister of National Development Planning in Jakarta on May 2, 2025.
PDN 1 completed its handover process in March 2025. It is currently undergoing security and operational assessments by the National Cyber and Crypto Agency (BSSN).
“We aim to commence operational trials in June,” she stated.
Part of Priority National Programs
The acceleration of PDN development is part of efforts to support the Eight Quick-Win Programs (PHTC) of the President and 17 national priority programs.
One of the main targets is to ensure more transparent and accountable distribution of social assistance through reliable digital technology.
Plans for Additional Data Centers Underway
The government plans to build three National Data Centers. While PDN 1 is nearing operation, PDN 2 and PDN 3 are in preparation. A co-sharing scheme is currently being discussed to speed up their realization.
Backup Systems Facing Budget Issues
Meutya Hafid also highlighted the urgency of strengthening operational backup. “Currently, the backup option still relies on the Temporary National Data Center (PDNS), but the budget is not yet available. If not budgeted soon, there is a risk the system will run without backup, and that is not ideal,” she said.
The government has emphasized its commitment to completing the entire National Data Center development process to ensure effective, secure, and sustainable digital governance.
