PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (BNI) recorded pre-provision operating profit (PPOP) of Rp27.5 trillion in the first nine months of 2026, an increase of 11.6% year-on-year (YoY), marking its highest third-quarter result on record.
The bank also reported loan growth of 22.2% to Rp992.5 trillion, a 19.6% increase in current account savings account (CASA) deposits to Rp733.7 trillion, and an improvement in its gross non-performing loan (NPL) ratio to 1.9% (27/10).
BNI Q3 2026 Financial Performance Reaches Record Rp27.5 Trillion
BNI's net interest income (NII) increased 13.6% YoY to Rp33.2 trillion, while fee-based income rose 8.3% to Rp13.9 trillion. Net profit grew 6.6% YoY to Rp16.1 trillion despite pressure on banking margins and the need to maintain adequate loan-loss provisions.
BNI President Director Putrama Wahju Setyawan said the results reflected the company's efforts to maintain quality business growth by strengthening its fundamentals and managing risks.
"Amid challenging market dynamics, BNI continues to maintain its growth momentum by prioritizing prudence and discipline in risk management. Our focus is on strengthening fundamentals and productivity to create quality and sustainable growth," Putrama said in a written statement.
During its Board of Governors meeting on October 20–21, 2026, Bank Indonesia maintained its benchmark BI-Rate at 5.75% and decided to reduce the statutory reserve requirement (Giro Wajib Minimum, or GWM) gradually starting in November 2026. The policy is expected to strengthen banking liquidity and support lending to productive sectors.
Digital Banking Growth Supports BNI's Business Expansion
As of September 2026, BNI's wondr by BNI application had reached 16.6 million users, an increase of 58% YoY. The platform recorded transaction value of Rp1,774 trillion, up 25% from the same period a year earlier.
BNIdirect recorded transaction value of Rp9,324 trillion, growing 16% YoY, while its user base reached 293,000, an increase of 19%.
BNI continued to develop its digital services and branch network through the Branch, Region & Area Value Empowerment (BRAVE) initiative. The program aims to improve branch productivity, increase transaction activity, and strengthen the collection of low-cost deposits.
"Integrating digital services with our branch network allows BNI to expand service coverage, increase transactions, and strengthen relationships with customers across various segments," Putrama said.
Selective Lending and Strong Deposits Strengthen Asset Quality
BNI Finance and Strategy Director Hussein Paolo Kartadjoemena said the bank had expanded lending selectively across all segments while maintaining disciplined credit underwriting standards. This approach helped increase BNI's loan market share by 113 basis points (bps) YoY to 10.6%.
The bank's CASA deposits grew 19.6% YoY to Rp733.7 trillion, supported by stronger transaction-based banking services through BNIdirect and wondr by BNI.
By September 2026, BNI's current account balances had increased 25.9% YoY, exceeding industry growth of 9.8% based on August 2026 data. Its current account market share rose by 120 bps to 13.2%, while its savings account market share increased by 10 bps to 9.2%, supported by savings growth of 11.6% YoY.
BNI's net interest margin (NIM) declined by 30 bps to 3.5%, in line with the decline across the banking industry. The decrease was mainly driven by a reduction in loan yield from 7.3% to 6.9%.
Meanwhile, the bank's cost of funds eased from 2.83% to 2.77%, supported by strong CASA growth.
"Selective loan growth and stronger low-cost deposits are important to maintaining a balance between business expansion and profitability. We continue to optimize our funding structure to ensure that growth remains healthy and sustainable," Paolo said.
BNI Risk Management Director David Pirzada said the bank's asset quality had improved, with the loan-at-risk (LaR) ratio falling from 10.4% to 7.8% and the gross NPL ratio declining from 2.0% to 1.9%.
BNI maintained total loan-loss provisions equivalent to 3.8% of loans, compared with the industry level of 3.5%. Its NPL coverage ratio stood at 193.3%.
"Risk management begins with selecting priority sectors and assessing borrower creditworthiness, and continues with post-disbursement monitoring, supported by an early warning system that we continue to strengthen," David said.
BNI Maintains Capital and Liquidity Buffers for Sustainable Growth
BNI reported a loan-to-deposit ratio (LDR) of 87.9%, a liquidity coverage ratio (LCR) of 143.4%, and a net stable funding ratio (NSFR) of 128.4%. Its capital adequacy ratio (CAR) stood at 19.2%, above the minimum regulatory requirement.
The bank said its strong capital and liquidity position supported business expansion while providing room to anticipate potential risks.
BNI's business transformation is aligned with the state-owned enterprise (SOE) transformation agenda coordinated by Danantara Indonesia, which aims to improve productivity, competitiveness, and long-term value creation for companies and the national economy.
Through its core banking business, digital service development, and implementation of good corporate governance, BNI continues to support financing for productive sectors and national development.
In the fourth quarter of 2026, BNI plans to continue strengthening transaction-based funding, expanding lending selectively, maintaining disciplined risk management, and transforming its digital services and branch network to support financing for productive sectors and sustainable national economic growth.
