Indonesia Partners with Canva to Accelerate Digital Creative Economy Transformation at Scale

The Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy (Kemenparekraf) has formed a strategic partnership with Canva, an integrated visual communication platform, to promote national creative economy growth by enhancing skills and expanding access to digital design technology (28/7).

Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Teuku Riefky Harsya stated that this collaboration is a strategic step to accelerate the growth of Indonesia’s creative economy through digital design.

"Through the National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN), we are targeting the integration of 27.66 million workers into the creative economy sector by 2029. This partnership with Canva is designed to help overcome the challenges in reaching that goal. I am very inspired by Canva’s outstanding achievements. This web-based graphic design platform enables anyone, regardless of background or experience, to create visually appealing content quickly and easily," said Minister Teuku Riefky.

The partnership was formalized through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Ministry Secretary Dessy Ruhati and Canva’s Regional Head for Southeast Asia, Yani Hornilla Donato, witnessed by the minister at the Film Pesona Indonesia Building in Jakarta.

Supporting Indonesia’s Creative Economy Vision Toward 2045

The partnership aligns with the government’s broader vision to position the creative economy as a key driver of national growth toward Indonesia Emas 2045.

With its cultural richness and creative talent, Indonesia views this partnership as a concrete step to foster inclusive digital and creative transformation.

"We welcome Canva’s initiative to localize more content that reflects Indonesia’s cultural wealth, heritage, and business landscape. This is important so that the tools used by our community remain relevant and strengthen the nation's identity," said Minister Teuku Riefky.

Canva’s Support for Digital Literacy and Creative Industry Growth

Yani Hornilla Donato stated that Canva is committed to supporting the growth of Indonesia’s creative economy through a platform that empowers businesses of all sizes.

"In just the past year, the Indonesian community created more than one billion designs on Canva. This reflects how creativity is thriving here, from classrooms and campuses to small businesses and startups. Together, we support the government’s broader agenda on digital literacy, entrepreneurship, and the growth of the creative industry, all of which are essential pillars of Indonesia’s digital transformation," explained Yani.

Access to Canva Pro, Monthly Training, and Localized Templates

As part of the program, Canva will provide special access to Canva Pro for creative economy players and associations within the Ministry’s network.

Monthly training sessions will be conducted for government teams and creative industry participants to strengthen practical design skills for the digital, visual-based era.

Canva will also enrich its template library with content tailored to local contexts, showcasing Indonesia’s cultural wealth and the diversity of its creative business sectors.

This is expected to help creative economy actors produce content that is more relevant, engaging, and impactful.

Indonesia is currently Canva’s largest market in Asia and the third largest globally.

In 2024, more than one billion designs were created by the Indonesian community on the platform, including 500 million presentations, making Indonesia the number one market in that category worldwide.

Key Stakeholders Attend MoU Signing Ceremony

The event was attended by Country Marketing Lead for Canva Indonesia Sarah Humaira, Community Manager Jihan Aryani, Senior Trade and Investment Commissioner of Austrade Stephen Skulley, Trade and Investment Director of Investment NSW Yonathan Wijaya, Marketing Manager of Austrade Aulia Adilla, and First Secretary of the Australian Government Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade Sophie Mackinnon.

Minister Teuku Riefky was accompanied by Deputy for Strategic Development of Creative Economy Cecep Rukendi, Deputy for Creative Media Agustini Rahayu, and several echelon II officials from the Ministry.
