The Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy (Kemenparekraf) officially launched BEKUP 2025 to strengthen the Indonesia digital startup ecosystem, focusing on both early-stage incubation and business acceleration.
Deputy for Digital Creativity and Technology, Muhammad Neil El Himam, said the initiative builds on years of success supporting startups in the technology sector.
“BEKUP 2025 does not only conduct incubation but also acceleration to bring startups to the next level,” Neil said during the program launch broadcast by the ministry.
Dual Focus: BEKUP Create and BEKUP Accelerate
BEKUP 2025 features two core streams. The first, BEKUP Create, is designed to develop creative digital talent through an upskilling bootcamp.
Participants will receive training in creative workshops, technology, coding, UI/UX, and practical project mentoring, from idea development to building a digital application prototype or Minimum Viable Product (MVP).
The second stream, BEKUP Accelerate, is intended for startups that have passed the MVP stage.
It focuses on strengthening business models, improving market transactions, and increasing financial stability.
Founders will receive intensive mentoring, investor readiness training, and access to investment networks and technology partners.
National Reach and Impact Since 2020
Between 2020 and 2024, the BEKUP program reached more than 20 cities in Indonesia, attracted over 1,300 applicants, and incubated more than 330 early-stage tech startups focused on creative digital innovation.
Neil stated that BEKUP 2025 is expected to impact over 550 startups and talents, and will select 10 early-stage startups and 5 top solution prototypes.
Driving Digital Economy Growth in Southeast Asia
Neil emphasized the role of the digital economy as a backbone of national growth.
In 2024, Indonesia recorded a gross merchandise value (GMV) of USD 90 billion or around IDR 1,400 trillion, reflecting a 13 percent increase from the previous year.
Long-term projections suggest Indonesia’s digital economy could reach between USD 210–360 billion by 2030, further reinforcing its position as Southeast Asia’s largest digital market.
Inclusive Startup Support and Mentorship
Over 80 mentors and experts will be involved in BEKUP 2025 to help founders refine business models and market strategies.
The program targets a 50 percent survival rate for pre-seed and early-stage startups.
From 2020 to 2024, BEKUP contributed to a 36 percent increase in users or service uptake, revenue growth, improved B2B partnership schemes, and better funding access.
The program also supported local communities, created new job opportunities, including for persons with disabilities, and promoted gender equality by employing women.
“The BEKUP 2025 program is open to all tech startup players across Indonesia through a national open call, so they can become part of strengthening Indonesia’s digital economy,” said Neil.
