eFishery Workers Brace for Possible Job Cuts

The labor union of PT Multidaya Teknologi Nusantara (SPMTN), known as eFishery, is proactively preparing for possible layoffs. As of now, the union has not received any official communication from the company regarding workforce reductions.

"As of today, there is no information related to that (layoffs)," stated SPMTN Secretary-General Risyad Azhary on Friday, January 17, 2025, as reported by Kompas.com.

Risyad mentioned that eFishery's management has reached out to discuss the company's commitments amid the current situation. "There hasn't been a dialogue yet, but someone from the management has contacted us," he added.

SPMTN was established on January 13, 2025, out of awareness of the need for unionization. Technology companies previously lacked such organizations.

"We believe it's time for workers in the technology sector to unite and form unions so they can support and strengthen each other," Risyad explained.

In its official statement, SPMTN committed to becoming a positive partner for eFishery's management. The union focuses on advocating for both contractual and permanent workers’ rights. Its aim is to create a better working environment.

The union is currently preparing for its first congress and socialization efforts to strengthen the organization. It is also collaborating with management to draft a fair Collective Labor Agreement (PKB).

SPMTN expressed readiness to face challenges such as layoffs and restructuring. It plans to approach these issues constructively and in compliance with legal frameworks. The union’s commitment lies in ensuring justice and transparency within the company.

Previously, Gibran Huzaifah was officially removed from his position as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of eFishery. This removal is tied to an investigation by investors into alleged financial misconduct.

Gibran is reportedly involved in alleged embezzlement of company funds. Chrisna Aditya, the Chief of Product Officer (CPO), also faced suspension during the investigation. He later resigned from his position.
