QRIS Digital Transactions Surge in Indonesia Amid Global Economic Uncertainty

Indonesia’s digital transaction activity continues to grow despite ongoing global economic uncertainty, with QRIS usage rising significantly, especially during the Lebaran 2026 period (11/04).

Domestic transactions remained active during the holiday, reflecting continued economic movement within the country.

Strong Consumer Spending Drives Indonesia’s Digital Payment Growth

Chief Executive Officer ALTO Network, Gretel Griselda, stated that payment trends in Indonesia remain stable and are even strengthening amid global volatility.

“In the current global economic environment, which tends to have high volatility, we see that payment trends in Indonesia remain stable and even show signs of strengthening,” she said.

She explained that both transaction volume and frequency continue to increase, indicating that consumer purchasing power remains strong.

ALTO Network currently processes up to 30 million transactions per day.

ALTO Network Reports Significant Increase in QRIS and Transaction Volume

ALTO Network recorded a 50 percent year-on-year increase in transaction volume compared to the same period last year.

QRIS transactions processed by the company also grew significantly, with volume increasing 89.56 percent and transaction value rising 94.18 percent year-on-year between March 2025 and March 2026.

Data from Bank Indonesia shows digital banking transactions growing more than 20–30 percent annually, while QRIS previously exceeded 100 percent growth during its early adoption phase.

System Integration Becomes Critical as Digital Transactions Scale

As digital transactions increase, financial institutions face challenges such as handling more complex transaction types and conducting real-time data analysis.

Many institutions still rely on separate dashboards to monitor transactions and manage disruptions, which can lead to fragmented data and slower decision-making.

To address this, ALTO introduced ASKARA Connect, which integrates operational processes into a single system to improve visibility and response time.

ASKARA Collab was also introduced to combine automation with human coordination, making issue handling more structured and traceable.

Chief Business Officer ALTO Network Rangga Wiseno said the main challenge ahead is ensuring all backend processes are integrated and efficient.

“The biggest challenge ahead is not only how to process transactions quickly, but how to ensure all backend processes—from monitoring to coordination and issue resolution—run in an integrated and efficient manner,” he said.

Bank Indonesia Highlights Rapid QRIS Expansion and Cross-Border Adoption

Bank Indonesia reported that QRIS transactions grew 139.99 percent year-on-year by the fourth quarter of 2025.

Deputy Governor Filianingsih Hendarta said this growth is driven by wider implementation, including cross-border QRIS use in Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, and Japan, with plans to expand further.

“In the near future, hopefully before the first quarter ends, we can implement it with China and South Korea. As you know, we are also in intensive discussions with India,” she said.

The QRIS Tap feature also contributed to growth, particularly in transportation. In the fourth quarter of 2025, QRIS Tap recorded more than 1.44 million transactions worth Rp28 billion, growing around 267 percent compared to the previous quarter.

Bank Indonesia targets QRIS transactions to reach 17 billion, supported by 60 million users and 45 million merchants.
