Samsung Electronics announced a partnership with CLEAR to introduce Samsung ID with CLEAR in Samsung Wallet, allowing users to add a US passport-based digital ID to their Galaxy devices for travel and identity verification (26/05).
The companies said the integration is designed to provide a secure and simplified mobile digital ID experience. Users can verify their identity at more than 250 Transportation Security Administration (TSA) checkpoints using Samsung Wallet on their phones instead of showing a physical ID.
Samsung said passport holders from the United States can create and store a TSA-approved digital ID in Samsung Wallet for domestic travel. The digital ID can also be used at selected sporting venues, including the BMO Stadium in Los Angeles.
Samsung ID with CLEAR Supports TSA Identity Verification
Samsung ID with CLEAR is backed by information from a valid US passport and verified by CLEAR. Travelers can present the digital ID at airport security checkpoints through a tap or QR code scan using Samsung Wallet.
Samsung stated that Samsung Wallet serves as a secure platform for payment cards, IDs, passes, digital keys, and other essential items. With the new integration, Samsung Wallet now supports passports, travel-related identification, and age 21+ verification use cases.
“We’re thrilled to partner with CLEAR to bring CLEAR ID to Samsung Wallet, making airport travel and other identity verification experiences easier and frictionless for our users,” said Woncheol Chai, EVP and Head of Digital Wallet Team, Mobile eXperience (MX) Business at Samsung Electronics.
“Samsung ID with CLEAR represents the future and remains at the forefront of digital identity. Integrating passports into Samsung Wallet demonstrates our ongoing dedication to creating technology that truly makes life easier for our users,” he said.
How Users Can Add Samsung ID with CLEAR
Samsung explained that users need a valid US passport to create a Samsung ID with CLEAR in Samsung Wallet.
Users can open the Quick Access tab in Samsung Wallet, tap the plus button, select “Digital IDs,” and choose “Samsung ID with CLEAR.” After selecting “Get Card,” users can complete the setup process by following the instructions provided in the application.
The companies said the digital ID is verified by CLEAR and can be used at participating TSA checkpoints for domestic travel verification.
Samsung Highlights Security Features in Samsung Wallet
Samsung said access to the digital ID is protected through fingerprint or PIN authentication. The company added that information from the ID is encrypted directly on the device using Samsung Knox security technology.
“CLEAR’s secure identity verification platform makes experiences safer and easier – both physically and digitally,” said CLEAR CEO Caryn Seidman Becker.
“Now with CLEAR’s secure identity platform embedded in Samsung Wallet, verifying your identity is easier than ever. Samsung ID with CLEAR gives you a simple, secure ID in the palm of your hand,” she said.
Samsung described Samsung Wallet as a platform designed to help Galaxy users organize everyday essentials with seamless access and integrated security features.
