This French AI Startup Plans 1,000 Edge Micro‑Data Centers by 2030 With 250,000 GPUs

French AI cloud startup Policloud has announced plans to deploy up to 1,000 micro-data centers by 2030, totaling more than 250,000 GPUs (16/02). The announcement was made at the World AI Cannes Festival 2026. The company focuses on small, sovereign GPU deployments and aims to expand its Edge computing network globally.

Policloud Reveals Ambitious Edge Data Center Roadmap

Policloud plans to deploy hundreds of Edge data centers over the next five years. The company intends to install 100 systems in 2026 alone, which will include more than 25,000 GPUs. This is more than double its previous target, which aimed for 10,000 GPUs by the end of 2026.

Current Deployments and Short-Term Expansion Plans

So far, Policloud has completed eight deployments in France, the Gulf Cooperation Council, and the United States. These installations represent around €10.5 million ($12.44 million) in contracts and include 1,200 GPUs. The company uses modular, containerized micro-data centers placed close to the data, at the Edge, to improve computing speed and efficiency.

Waterless-Cooled Micro Data Centers and Technology

Policloud’s micro-data centers are waterless-cooled and modular, with each unit holding up to 400 GPUs in a 100-square-meter (1,080 sq. ft.) area. Each pod has a power capacity of 500 kW. Deployments run on Hivenet’s distributed operating platform. Specific details about the GPUs and other hardware used in the pods have not been shared.

The company was founded by David Gurlé, a former Microsoft executive and founder of Symphony. In June 2025, Policloud raised €7.5 million ($8.8 million) in seed funding. The round was led by Global Ventures, with participation from MI8 Limited, OneRagtime, Inria, and France’s National Institute for Research in Digital Science and Technology, among other private investors.
