STMM Yogyakarta Launches Hub to Support Digital Startup Development and Young Talent

Sekolah Tinggi Multi Media (STMM) Yogyakarta is providing a platform for digital startup development through the Garuda Spark Innovation Hub (GSIH), which is located on the STMM Yogyakarta campus (9/9).

The platform was highlighted during STMM Yogyakarta’s first graduation ceremony for bachelor’s and applied bachelor’s degree students in 2026, held on Wednesday, September 9.

A total of 188 students graduated from the ceremony, including 68 students who received cum laude honors and 73 who received very satisfactory results.

GSIH Offers Mentoring and Startup Funding Opportunities

STMM Yogyakarta Chairman Agung Harimurti said the Ministry of Communication and Digital (Komdigi) is helping develop GSIH as a platform for young people to receive support in developing their careers and digital startups.

GSIH provides mentoring, talent scouting and talent development. Participants can also pitch their startup ideas to sponsors to seek funding for further development.

The hub also brings in professional mentors from national and international backgrounds.

GSIH Is Open to Students and Graduates

Agung said GSIH is available to all STMM students and graduates from different study programs.

The programs include broadcasting, animation and game technology, and public information and communication. GSIH can also be accessed by students from public and private universities in Yogyakarta.

“Google came here yesterday to provide lessons on the latest AI created by Google, and it was attended by students from universities. Hopefully, in the future, when there are mentoring sessions, the junior students can participate,” Agung said during his presentation at the STMM Yogyakarta graduation ceremony on Wednesday, September 9.

STMM Records 1,541 Animation and Game Characters

STMM Yogyakarta is also supporting student work in animation and game technology by recording a MURI record in the category “Most Animation and Game Characters Created by Students from One Higher Education Institution, totaling 1,541 Characters.”

The works were compiled into the book Desain Karakter Animasi dan Game, which was prepared by STMM animation lecturer Atmaja Septa Miyosa.

The compilation was carried out from June to September 2026. It included works from 416 students of the Animation and Game Technology program who had taken the Character Design course between 2021 and 2026.

“STMM wants to show that the Animation and Game Technology study program has succeeded in preserving student works, compiling and presenting them in a book publication. The main goal is to gain recognition as a Campus of 1000 IP (intellectual property),” he said.

Komdigi Sets AI Education Guidelines

Head of the Human Resources Development Agency at the Ministry of Communication and Digital Bonifasius Wahyu Pudjianto said the ministry is also paying attention to the development of artificial intelligence (AI).

He said Komdigi had issued Ministerial Decree No. 117 of 2026 on guidelines for the use and learning of digital technology and artificial intelligence in formal, non-formal and informal education.

Seven ministries have also agreed on guidelines for the use of digital technology and AI in education.

“This is to ensure that technology provides learning benefits while also protecting, especially our younger generation who are at risk of exposure in the digital space,” Bonifasius said.

Bonifasius encouraged STMM graduates to respond wisely to rapid technological development and continue creating work while upholding responsibility.

The graduates are expected not only to become workers in the creative industry but also to become part of the development of Indonesia’s digital culture.
