BCA QRIS Competition Targets 475 Tenants to Boost Cashless Payments in Surabaya

PT Bank Central Asia Tbk (BCA) and Bank Indonesia’s East Java Representative Office (BI East Java) are holding a QRIS transaction competition for approximately 475 tenants at Royal Plaza Surabaya to encourage digital payments and expand cashless transactions. The program runs from October 1 to 31, 2026 (01/10).

The competition targets tenants using BCA electronic data capture (EDC) terminals and QRIS services. The organizers aim to expand digital payment adoption, improve education about QRIS, and support the development of a cashless shopping mall ecosystem at Royal Plaza Surabaya.

BCA and Bank Indonesia Promote QRIS Digital Payments

I Ketut Alam Wangsawijaya, EVP of BCA’s Merchant Business Division, said the participation of 475 tenants showed positive interest in QRIS use at Royal Plaza Surabaya.

“Participation of 475 tenants in this activity demonstrates good enthusiasm for the use of QRIS at Royal Plaza Surabaya. We see that cash transactions still exist and QRIS usage has not yet reached its optimal level, so education combined with appreciation for tenants is expected to accelerate the transition to non-cash transactions. BCA also hopes this program will become a momentum for collaboration with several partners in strengthening the digital payment ecosystem in shopping centers. Going forward, BCA will continue to strengthen collaboration and provide relevant payment solutions to support the business growth of tenants,” Ketut said.

According to Ketut, the program combines education with recognition for participating tenants to encourage a shift from cash to non-cash payments. BCA also aims to strengthen cooperation with partners to support digital payment services at shopping centers.

QRIS Competition Categories and 26 Winners

The competition divides participants into two lines of business (LOB): food and beverages (F&B) and non-F&B. Jewelry, household goods, groceries, and department stores are excluded from these categories.

Participants are also classified as existing merchants or new merchants. Existing merchants already use BCA merchant services, while new merchants have not previously become BCA merchants.

Winners will be determined by the highest frequency of QRIS transactions. The competition will select 10 existing merchants from each line of business and three new merchants from each line of business, bringing the total number of winners to 26.

BCA and BI East Java Hold Tenant Education Gathering

BCA and BI East Java held a Royal Plaza tenant gathering on October 8, 2026, attended by 76 tenants. The event aimed to increase participation and encourage tenants to take part in the QRIS transaction competition (08/10).

During the gathering, BI East Java provided information about Indonesia’s digital payment system, including QRIS, as well as PEKA (Peduli, Kenali, Adukan) and consumer protection.

BCA presented the features and use of the Merchant BCA application and explained the competition’s rules. The sessions were intended to improve tenants’ understanding of digital payment services and consumer protection.

“Through the tenant gathering and the QRIS Transaction Competition, we hope tenants will not only gain a better understanding of QRIS and the Merchant BCA application, but also develop a sound understanding of consumer protection. This will enable the transition to non-cash transactions to benefit both tenants and customers. We are optimistic that collaboration with Bank Indonesia and Royal Plaza Surabaya can establish Royal Plaza as a shopping center with a cashless concept,” Ketut said.
