Indonesia and Sweden Drive Sustainable Health Initiatives by 2025

Indonesia and Sweden Strengthen Healthcare Cooperation through SISP Platform

Indonesia and Sweden have launched the Sweden-Indonesia Sustainability Partnership (SISP) Healthcare platform, marking a significant collaboration to transform healthcare systems. This initiative, jointly led by Team Sweden—which includes the Swedish Embassy, Business Sweden, and private companies—and Indonesia's Ministry of Health, aims to improve critical healthcare areas such as maternal health, cancer treatment, diabetes management, and digitalization.

The program, launched in early 2023, underscores the shared commitment of both nations to achieving the United Nations’ 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). According to Swedish Ambassador Daniel Blockert, SISP aligns with SDG 3, which focuses on ensuring healthy lives and well-being for all. Blockert highlighted the willingness of Swedish companies to contribute toward Indonesia's sustainable healthcare agenda in the coming years.

Kunta Wibawa Dasa Nugraha, Secretary-General of Indonesia’s Health Ministry, expressed optimism about the partnership. He noted that current efforts, including research collaborations between Airlangga University and Sweden’s Karolinska Institute, have already begun to address critical areas like maternal and neonatal health.

The initiative also complements Indonesia's Quick-Win programs, such as free health check-ups, which aim to build equitable healthcare access nationwide. The SISP platform will leverage public and private collaborations to enhance healthcare delivery through high-level dialogues, capacity building, and academic programs. For instance, AstraZeneca, a key Swedish partner, has pledged support to combat respiratory illnesses and strengthen cancer care in Indonesia.

The collaboration goes beyond government interaction by fostering partnerships with academia and private companies like Elekta and Essity, which contribute expertise in areas like healthcare digitalization. Swedish Commissioner Erik Odar emphasized the platform’s mission to bring Sweden's technological and medical expertise to support Indonesia’s vision of resilient and inclusive healthcare.

Looking ahead, the 2025 roadmap for SISP Healthcare includes initiatives such as the creation of “anemia academies” and doctoral programs to address Indonesia's pressing healthcare challenges. These collaborative efforts aim to establish long-term solutions, ensuring Indonesia's healthcare system evolves sustainably amid increasing climate and demographic pressures.

With SISP Healthcare, Indonesia and Sweden are setting a benchmark for global healthcare partnerships, aligning technological innovation with sustainable development for the benefit of future generations.
