PLN Indonesia Power Drives Renewable Energy Innovations Toward Net Zero Goals
PLN Indonesia Power (PLN IP) is making remarkable progress in advancing renewable energy projects across Indonesia. As part of its commitment to achieving Net Zero Emissions by 2060, the company has launched a series of ambitious initiatives, earning it the “Best Emerging Large Scale Renewable Energy Development” award at Electricity Connect 2024, organized by the Indonesian Electrical Society.
The company’s standout projects include Hijaunesia, focusing on solar energy with 12 solar power plants (PLTS) and one wind power plant (PLTB) totaling 1,055 MW capacity, and Hydronesia, a hydropower initiative with a combined capacity of 2,135 MW. PLN IP is also expanding its geothermal energy portfolio, adding 280 MW to its capacity, while collaborating with global players to unlock further geothermal potential.
Supporting these projects is the largest integrated solar panel factory in Indonesia, capable of producing 1 GWp annually with a domestic content level of 41%. This facility is pivotal in accelerating the adoption of solar energy in Indonesia.
Looking to the future, PLN IP is pioneering hydrogen technologies with Southeast Asia’s first Geothermal Green Hydrogen Plant and Indonesia’s inaugural Hydrogen Refueling Station. These developments underscore its ambition to create a comprehensive hydrogen ecosystem from production to distribution.
Collaboration and Support for the National Vision
Darmawan Prasodjo, CEO of PT PLN (Persero), emphasized the company's commitment to transitioning from fossil-based to green energy development. The company aims to meet Indonesia’s projected 103 GW energy demand by prioritizing 75 GW from renewable sources.
