Indonesia Sets Three‑Year Goal for National Food Self‑Sufficiency, President Prabowo Says

President of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto reaffirmed the government’s commitment to achieving full national food self-sufficiency within the next three years (08/02).

He delivered the statement while attending the Mujahadah Kubro marking one century of Nahdlatul Ulama in Malang, East Java.

Food Sovereignty as a Pillar of National Independence

President Prabowo emphasized that food sovereignty is a main pillar of national independence.

The government is focused not only on increasing production but also on ensuring the agricultural ecosystem is fair and supports farmers, who are central to national food security.

Strategic Fertilizer Management to Support Farmers

The government has taken control of national fertilizer distribution to guarantee availability, fair allocation, and affordable prices for farmers across Indonesia.

“The government has proven that once we took over governance, we could ensure fertilizers reached all farmers fairly, sufficiently, and at prices we reduced,” said President Prabowo.

Record Rice Production and National Reserves

Statistics Indonesia (BPS) reported that rice production in 2025 reached 34.69 million tons, an increase of 13.29 percent from 2024, matching FAO and USDA projections.

This makes Indonesia the highest rice producer in the ASEAN region.

President Prabowo highlighted that national rice reserves have reached the highest level in the country’s history.

“Praise be to God, for the first time in the history of our republic, rice reserves in our warehouses are the highest ever,” he stated.

In 2025, Bulog rice stocks reached 3.25 million tons and peaked at 4.2 million tons in June.

Entering 2026, combined government and community rice stocks reached 12.53 million tons, up 49.2 percent from the previous year.

Corn Production Supports Broader Food Independence

President Prabowo confirmed that Indonesia achieved rice self-sufficiency on 31/12/2025 and expects corn self-sufficiency soon.

“Since 31 December 2025, Indonesia is now self-sufficient in rice, and God willing, soon we will be self-sufficient in corn, and within three years we will be fully food self-sufficient,” he said.

BPS data shows corn production in 2025 reached 16.16 million tons, up 6.74 percent from 2024.

Corn production for January–March 2026 is projected at 4.94 million tons, a 4.18 percent increase from the same period last year.

Ensuring Affordable Food for All Indonesians

President Prabowo stressed that food policies aim to ensure prices remain affordable for the public.

“We are determined to lower food prices for all Indonesians,” he added.

Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman reinforced the President’s direction, stating that all policies from production to farmer assistance are aligned to maintain food self-sufficiency and deliver direct benefits to the people.

“President Prabowo has given very clear and firm guidance that food is a national priority. We ensure that all policies, from production and distribution to farmer assistance, are carried out in line with this guidance, so that food self-sufficiency can be maintained sustainably and its benefits directly felt by the people,” said Minister of Agriculture Amran.
