The Indonesian Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) is reinforcing the role of the Indonesian Chip Design Collaborative Center (ICDEC) to advance human resources and technology in chip design (26/01).
This initiative is part of efforts to strengthen the national semiconductor ecosystem.
Government Initiative to Develop Skilled Chip Designers
Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said ICDEC, started by Kemenperin in 2023, currently involves 16 universities with expertise in chip design.
“Our initial focus is to prepare human resources who are capable of designing chips, because design is a high-value-added and knowledge-based segment,” Agus stated during a working meeting with Commission VII of the Indonesian House of Representatives in Jakarta on Monday.
Agus emphasized that ICDEC is a non-profit organization and does not use state budget funds (APBN).
Instead, it relies on collaboration with universities, industry, and global partners.
Programs to Support Chip Design Development
Through ICDEC, Kemenperin implements training programs, workshops, incubators, as well as forums for design and intellectual property management.
These programs aim to connect the process from chip design to fabrication, packaging, and testing.
Kemenperin and ICDEC have also prepared a roadmap for developing the national semiconductor ecosystem. The plan is designed to enable Indonesia to actively participate in the global supply chain.
