RS Soeradji Tirtonegoro Klaten Launches Open‑Heart Surgery Service to Expand Cardiac Care in Central Java

RS Soeradji Tirtonegoro (RSST) Klaten officially launched its open-heart surgery service to expand access to advanced healthcare services for the public, especially in Central Java and surrounding areas (19/01).

The launch is part of efforts to strengthen high-technology referral healthcare services in the region.

Health Ministry Highlights Rising Heart Disease Burden

Deputy Minister of Health Prof. Dante Saksono Harbuwono stated that health financing for heart disease in Indonesia has reached Rp19.7 trillion, reflecting the significant burden of cardiac illness nationwide.

“In 2012, only 10 hospitals were able to perform open-heart surgery in Indonesia. Now there are 35 hospitals across around 30 provinces, and RS Soeradji officially becomes the 36th,” Prof. Dante said.

He stressed the importance of maintaining consistent quality and empathy in providing open-heart surgery services.

RS Soeradji Marks a New Chapter in Its Service History

President Director of RS Soeradji Tirtonegoro, Sholahuddin Rhatomy, said the launch represents an important milestone for the hospital, which has served the community for nearly a century.

“Today we are entering a new chapter by starting open-heart surgery services. This is one of the advanced and high-risk healthcare services as a form of our dedication,” he said.

Part of National Cardiac Service Equalization Program

The service is part of the Ministry of Health’s national initiative to equalize cardiac services, with RS dr. Kariadi Semarang appointed as the regional mentoring hospital overseeing RSST’s readiness.

President Director of RS dr. Kariadi Semarang, Agus Akhmadi, said heart disease remains one of the leading causes of death in Indonesia.

“The cardiac service network program initiated by the Ministry of Health ensures comprehensive services are not only centered in major hospitals, but can also be accessed by communities in various regions, including Klaten,” Agus said.

Klaten Government Welcomes New Cardiac Service

Klaten Regent Hamenang Wajar Ismoyo welcomed the launch and said the availability of more complete healthcare services would benefit the local community.

“With more complete healthcare services and easy access, people no longer need to travel far to Jakarta or Surabaya for treatment,” Hamenang said.

The information was released by the Bureau of Communication and Public Information of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia.
