PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (BRI) has strengthened its digital infrastructure with its own satellite, BRIsat, to expand banking services across Indonesia, including remote, frontier, and underdeveloped regions (3T).
Corporate Secretary Dhanny highlighted that BRIsat symbolizes BRI’s commitment to financial inclusion, enabling the bank to reach communities nationwide and support equitable access to digital financial services.
“BRIsat represents a strategic step to strengthen BRI’s digital infrastructure foundation and ensure reliable banking connectivity throughout Indonesia. This technology reinforces operational resilience, improves service speed, and supports the growth of the national digital financial ecosystem. The initiative underscores BRI’s transformation focused on continuous innovation and service excellence for customers,” Dhanny said.
Extensive Coverage Across Indonesia and Asia
BRIsat was launched on 18 June 2016 via an Ariane 5 rocket from the Guiana Space Center in Europe. The satellite provides wide coverage across Indonesia, ASEAN countries, parts of East Asia, including China, the Pacific Ocean, Australia’s west coast, and Hawaii.
Enhancing BRI’s Digital Banking Infrastructure
Before BRIsat, BRI used satellites from various providers to maintain operational and transaction continuity nationwide. With the bank’s expanding business, broader network, and increasing data requirements, BRI decided to develop its own high-capacity communication infrastructure in 2015, in line with government efforts to accelerate financial inclusion and strengthen national competitiveness.
Improving Service Efficiency and Digital Ecosystem
Ownership of BRIsat allows BRI to improve the performance of its branch network and electronic channels while supporting digital services like AgenBRILink with faster, more stable, and accurate data transmission.
“BRIsat reflects BRI’s ability to meet future challenges with a long-term technology approach. More than a communication tool, it symbolizes BRI’s vision to build inclusive, resilient, and sustainable financial services for all Indonesians,” Dhanny added.
