Kadin Strengthens Indonesia-UK Partnership for Green Energy and Housing

Indonesia Secures Green Finance Opportunities from London Stock Exchange Group

During President Prabowo’s state visit to the UK, Anindya Bakrie, Chairman of Kadin (Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry), announced promising financing opportunities with the London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG). These funds are aimed at supporting Indonesia’s energy transition and affordable housing initiatives, marking a significant milestone in climate action and sustainable development efforts.

Speaking at the “Indonesia-UK Climate and Green Finance Breakfast” held at the London Stock Exchange, Bakrie emphasized Indonesia’s pivotal role as a resource-rich nation in the Global South, with abundant biodiversity, critical minerals, and renewable energy potential. “This partnership reinforces the importance of financial flows from the Global North to support critical green projects in the Global South,” he stated.

Kadin is actively working to address climate change through initiatives such as the Net Zero and Carbon Center of Excellence. This collaboration with LSEG is expected to enable state-owned and private enterprises in Indonesia to access innovative funding mechanisms, including green bonds and other financial instruments.

The event also celebrated the strong bilateral relationship between Indonesia and the UK, attended by dignitaries such as Julia Hoggett (CEO of LSEG), Alastair John Naisbitt King (Lord Mayor of London), and notable Indonesian figures like Hashim S. Djojohadikusumo and Michael Sampoerna. In a symbolic gesture, representatives from both countries participated in the ceremonial opening of the trading session at the London Stock Exchange.

The partnership highlights Indonesia’s growing focus on sustainable financing and the importance of international collaboration in combating climate change while addressing social and housing needs.
