Indonesia’s Ministry of Industry has finalized the Indonesia–UNIDO Programme for Country Partnership (IUPCP) for 2026–2030, marking a strengthened strategic collaboration with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization to support national industrial development, green transformation, and SDG achievement (24/11).
The Ministry stated that this framework is an essential part of Indonesia’s industrial diplomacy and will serve as a comprehensive platform for the coming years.
Progress Achieved Under the 2021–2025 Collaboration
The new programme extends the Indonesia–UNIDO Country Programme (IUCP) 2021–2025, which recorded concrete progress in improving industrial competitiveness, adopting green technologies, enhancing production efficiency, and strengthening sustainable industry standards. These achievements form the basis for deeper cooperation in the next cycle.
Green Industrial Transformation as a National Priority
Vice Minister of Industry Faisol Riza emphasized the importance of the partnership for Indonesia’s future industrial direction.
“Indonesia is accelerating green industrial transformation as the main pathway toward Net Zero Emissions 2060, and for the manufacturing sector, NZE is accelerated to 2050 to ensure competitiveness in the low-carbon global market. Programmes such as the Global Eco Industrial Parks Programme (GEIPP) and Global Greenchem Innovation and Network Programme (GGINP) have delivered real impacts for the industrial sector during 2021–2025,” he said.
Five industrial estates—Batamindo, MM2100, KIIC Karawang, Kawasan Industri Medan, and Deltamas—have become pilot projects for implementing eco-industrial park concepts through the second phase of GEIPP.
These efforts are expected to accelerate the national rollout of green industrial zones.
Broader Programme Scope and Development of Eco-Industrial Parks
The Vice Minister noted that the scope of cooperation with UNIDO will widen in the upcoming period.
“Finalizing the 2026–2030 Programme will strengthen UNIDO’s technical support in Indonesia, not only in integrating standardization, certification, and green industry ecosystems, but also in strengthening downstreaming, global supply chains, digital transformation, human resource capacity, and overall regional development,” he explained.
The Ministry is also promoting the establishment of an Eco-Industrial Park (EIP) Center at the Pusat Industri Digital 4.0.
The center is intended to serve as a hub for excellence, incubation, and acceleration of environmentally oriented industrial zones.
High-Level UNIDO Participation and Potential New Synergies
The bilateral meeting in Riyadh was led by senior UNIDO leadership, including Ciyong Zou, Deputy the Director General & Managing Director of the Directorate of Technical Cooperation and Sustainable Industrial Development.
The discussion was also attended by Francesco Azzena, Project Coordinator for the UNIDO Regional Bureau for Asia & Pacific.
Indonesia and UNIDO reviewed potential cooperation opportunities through the BRICS Center for Industrial Competencies, focusing on industrial human resources, SME competitiveness, circular economy development, and digital transformation aligned with Industry 4.0.
The Vice Minister stressed that such collaboration is increasingly important as global expectations for low-emission industry continue to grow.
He also expressed hope that programme coverage will expand beyond Java so that the economic impact of GEIPP and other initiatives can reach more regions.
The Ministry is finalizing regulations to support the transition to green industrial zones and ensure the sustainable implementation of standards and certification.
“Through collaboration with UNIDO, Indonesia wants to ensure that green industrial transition generates economic, social, and environmental benefits for communities and businesses,” he said.
