Genting Group Begins Bali Stem Cell Facility, Boosting ASEAN Healthcare
Genting Berhad has initiated the development of its first stem cell facility, Fontaine Vitale, in the Sanur Special Economic Zone (SEZ), Bali, Indonesia. Operated by its subsidiary PT Astana Bangun Sejahtera, the facility marks a transformative leap in ASEAN's medical tourism landscape. Genting collaborates with local entities PT Sentosa Bersama Mitra and PT Bintang Graha Hijau to lease a 9,121-square-meter plot for the project, following an agreement with landowner PT Hotel Indonesia Natour.
Sanur SEZ, Indonesia’s first medical tourism zone, aims to attract local and international patients with its advanced healthcare infrastructure. It includes specialized clinics, research facilities, and wellness centers in a serene setting. Fontaine Vitale aligns with this vision, offering innovative treatments and regenerative therapies through advanced stem cell applications.
The facility is powered by Genting’s partnership with Celularity Inc., a US-based leader in placental-derived allogeneic cell therapies. The first phase will establish a state-of-the-art stem cell clinic focused on wellness, aesthetics, and regenerative medicine. These therapies will use FDA-approved cells from Celularity's cGMP facility. In the second phase, Fontaine Vitale plans to develop an on-site manufacturing unit to supply stem cells for regional use.
The clinic is set to begin operations by the end of 2026, making it ASEAN’s first provider of placenta-derived stem cell therapies. These offerings emphasize quality and safety, positioning Bali as a premier destination for cutting-edge healthcare solutions.
In addition to regenerative medicine, the facility will feature diagnostic tools from Genting’s life sciences portfolio. AI-enhanced imaging and early detection systems will target diseases such as dementia, improving prevention and management.
This project reflects Genting’s entry into healthcare, signaling a diversification beyond its core industries. “Genting Berhad is proud to contribute to the Sanur SEZ’s vision as a world-class health and wellness destination,” said Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay, Genting’s chairman. He emphasized that Fontaine Vitale would solidify Bali’s reputation as a key hub for medical tourism in ASEAN.
According to Datuk Seri Tan Kong Han, Genting’s president and COO, the clinic represents a commitment to innovative healthcare solutions. Its services cater to the growing regional demand for advanced medical treatments. Partnering with Celularity, Fontaine Vitale ensures access to safe, effective stem cell therapies.
Dr. Robert Hariri, Celularity’s CEO, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, noting its potential to expand access to wellness and regenerative medicine in ASEAN.
Fontaine Vitale is poised to elevate Bali’s medical tourism appeal, attracting global patients seeking top-tier regenerative therapies. The initiative supports Indonesia’s ambition to be a leader in Southeast Asia’s medical tourism sector while diversifying Genting Group’s investment portfolio.
