How QRIS Indonesia 2025 Is Driving Digital Payments Through Cultural Tourism Nationwide

Bank Indonesia has launched QRIS Jelajah Indonesia 2025, a national campaign combining the development of a digital payment ecosystem with the promotion of Indonesian cultural tourism.

This initiative invites the public to travel while transacting using digital financial instruments.

It aims to further accelerate digitalization as a foundation to strengthen financial inclusion and advance MSMEs.

Bank Indonesia Aligns Digitalization with Cultural Identity

Deputy Governor of Bank Indonesia, Filianingsih Hendarta, emphasized that rapid digitalization must align with Indonesia’s cultural and tourism heritage.

“Through the spirit of culture and innovation, we hope digitalization of the payment system can continue to expand sustainably throughout the country while becoming deeply rooted in the daily lives of the Indonesian people,” she stated.

Bank Indonesia encourages collaboration with all stakeholders at both central and regional levels to ensure the success of QRIS Jelajah Indonesia 2025.

The campaign includes a competition to be held across 46 Domestic Representative Offices (KPwDN) of Bank Indonesia.

Strong Growth in QRIS Adoption Nationwide

By the first half of 2025, QRIS has reached 57 million users and 39.3 million merchants, with 93.16% of merchants categorized as MSMEs.

The platform recorded 6.05 billion transactions worth 579 trillion Rupiah, showing positive progress in supporting the national digital financial economy.

Yogyakarta Government Supports Inclusive Economic Ecosystem

Governor of the Yogyakarta Special Region, Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono X, reaffirmed the local government’s commitment to building an inclusive and sustainable economic ecosystem.

“In the midst of digital and technological development, it is important to maintain harmony in the digital era by ensuring technology is used not only for economic growth but also for equitable benefit,” he said.

The event was attended by mayors and regents from across Yogyakarta, members of the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda), Payment System Service Providers, Public Transport Operators, and business associations.

Launch of QRIS TAP for Public Transportation in Yogyakarta

Alongside the campaign, the QRIS Tanpa Pindai (QRIS TAP) was introduced for the transportation sector in Yogyakarta.

QRIS TAP utilizes Near Field Communication (NFC) technology as an alternative payment method for fast, easy, affordable, secure, and reliable (CeMuMuAH) mass transactions.

Its implementation marks an integration between digital payment systems and public transport services to support the tourism sector.

This innovation forms part of a broader effort in national digital transformation focused on enhancing public service in strategic sectors.
