Indonesia’s Private Hospitals Transform Healthcare with Strategic Collaborations
Private hospitals in Indonesia have experienced remarkable growth, expanding from 815 facilities in 2012 to approximately 2,000 in 2021, with continued development in 2024. This growth reflects a shift towards enhancing healthcare accessibility and quality, aligned with the nation’s healthcare transformation agenda.
In a pivotal move, GE HealthCare and the Indonesian Private Hospitals Association (ARSSI) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote innovation and capacity building across ARSSI's network of over 1,600 hospitals. Key initiatives include standardized medical training, adopting cutting-edge healthcare technology, and developing professional healthcare talent.
Anthony Lawrence, President Director of PT GE Operations Indonesia, emphasized that the partnership aims to provide affordable, high-quality, and sustainable healthcare solutions. The collaboration introduces seminars and workshops focusing on skills enhancement and advanced medical technology deployment. These efforts are designed to elevate service standards and expand access to modern medical care across the country.
The transformation extends beyond technological upgrades. The Ministry of Health is actively involved, focusing on its fifth pillar: technological and workforce development. Dr. Astri Hernansari from the Ministry’s Hospital Strategy and Transformation team highlighted that private sector efforts align seamlessly with government goals to enhance healthcare delivery nationwide.
Integration with the national health insurance program, BPJS, represents another challenge. Prof. Ali Ghufron Mukti, CEO of BPJS Health, stressed the need to simplify administrative processes, reduce bureaucratic hurdles, and improve patient experiences in private facilities. By overcoming these barriers, BPJS aims to ensure more efficient service delivery and equitable healthcare access.
The inaugural executive meeting under this partnership, themed “Principals and Guidelines for Governance in Hospitals Technical Know-How and Oncology System,” explored strategies for integrating oncology services and BPJS health coverage. The event facilitated knowledge sharing among hospital leaders, paving the way for comprehensive service improvements.
This collaboration underscores the critical role of private hospitals in Indonesia’s healthcare landscape. By leveraging partnerships and digital transformation, the sector is poised to deliver superior healthcare services to a broader population. With GE HealthCare's support, private hospitals are not only enhancing patient care but also contributing to the nation’s overall health system evolution.
