Alfamart Invests $1 Million in Noovoleum to Boost Used Cooking Oil Recycling Efforts

PT Sumber Alfaria Trijaya Tbk. (AMRT), The company behind Alfamart has injected US$1 million, equivalent to Rp16.23 billion, into PT Noovoleum Indonesia Investama, a local recycling-focused startup.

In an official disclosure, AMRT confirmed it had signed an investment agreement to acquire a non-controlling stake in Noovoleum.

“The purpose of the investment is to gain investment opportunities in addition to business synergy collaboration,” said AMRT Corporate Secretary Tomin Widian on Tuesday (8/7).

This transaction is not categorized as a material transaction under OJK Regulation No.17/POJK.04/2020, nor does it fall under affiliated or conflict of interest transactions regulated in OJK Regulation No.42/POJK.04/2020.

Noovoleum’s Role in Used Cooking Oil Recycling

Noovoleum Indonesia Investama is a Jakarta-based startup offering waste oil recycling solutions.

The company focuses on collecting used cooking oil (UCO) to convert it into renewable energy.

According to its official website, Noovoleum uses exclusive technology and artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance the collection of used cooking oil from households and small producers.

The company also provides incentives to participants through profit-sharing mechanisms.

Noovoleum was established in 2022 with a mission to optimize and scale waste oil collection using intelligent systems.

Alfamart Sets Rp5 Trillion Capex for Expansion

In addition to the investment, AMRT is continuing its organic expansion strategy this year.

The company has prepared a capital expenditure (capex) budget of Rp4.5 trillion to Rp5 trillion for 2025.

According to Corporate Secretary Tomin Widian, the funds will be used for the construction of new stores and for renewing operating licenses.

AMRT aims to build 1,000 new stores, most of which will be located in the Jabodetabek region.

Rp1.5 Trillion Allocated to Build Distribution Centers

AMRT also plans to allocate Rp1.5 trillion of its capex toward the development of distribution centers (DC) in 2025.

“Approximately Rp3 trillion is related to store expansion or store renewals, which includes around 2,700 to 2,800 stores,” said Tomin.
