Indonesia Proposes Rp12.6 Trillion Budget Increase for Digital Transformation in 2026

The Ministry of Communication and Digital (Kemkomdigi) has proposed an additional Rp12.6 trillion in its 2026 state budget.

The proposal was delivered during a Working Meeting with Commission I of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) on Monday (7/7).

This funding will focus on three key areas: expanding internet access in Papua, supporting the National Data Center (PDN), and accelerating artificial intelligence (AI) development.

These priorities are part of Indonesia’s ongoing national digital transformation efforts.

The proposed addition increases the total budget requirement for Kemkomdigi to Rp20.36 trillion, up from the initial indicative ceiling of Rp7.75 trillion.

Meutya Hafid: Inclusive and Competitive Digital Agenda

Minister Meutya Hafid stated that the priorities outlined are essential to ensuring Indonesia's inclusion in global digital progress.

“To support the implementation of priority programs, we need additional funding beyond Kemkomdigi’s 2026 indicative ceiling,” said Meutya during the session in Jakarta.

She explained that the proposed budget will fund digital infrastructure, ecosystem development, and digital space management.

This includes cybersecurity, public communication, media programs, and managerial support.

These initiatives align with the ministry’s vision, “Meaningful digital transformation toward digital sovereignty and independence for Indonesia, in line with the Asta Cita goals”.

Kemkomdigi Earns WTP, Commits to Financial Discipline

Kemkomdigi received an Unqualified Opinion (Wajar Tanpa Pengecualian, WTP) from the Audit Board of Indonesia (BPK) for its 2024 Financial Report.

Meutya affirmed the ministry’s commitment to maintaining the WTP status by implementing all BPK recommendations to improve internal controls and ensure effective, efficient spending within legal guidelines.

“Hopefully, this becomes a motivation for Kemkomdigi under our leadership and that of the Deputy Ministers to keep moving forward,” she said.

Kemkomdigi contributed the highest non-tax state revenue (PNBP) among ministries and agencies in the first quarter of 2025, totaling Rp8.66 trillion as of July 4, 2025.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Ministers Nezar Patria and Angga Raka Prabowo, along with senior high-ranking officials from the Ministry.
