The visit of the Chairman of the Food and Drug Supervisory Agency of the Republic of Indonesia (BPOM RI), Prof. Dr. Taruna Ikrar, to India for a week received a positive response from business people, government, and academics in the country with the largest population in the world.
The visit was a follow-up to the visit of the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, in January 2025, which had opened the way for bilateral cooperation between Indonesia and India.
During the working visit, Prof. Taruna Ikrar received full support from the Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to India, Ina H. Krisnamurthi.
The Ambassador expressed his high appreciation to the Head of BPOM RI for his commitment in encouraging the presence of high-quality drugs and food products in Indonesia.
Accompanied by several officials from BPOM RI, Vinod Srinivas, a consultant representing an Indian company, participated in the visit. Srinivas is positioned to become a strategic partner in the development of Indonesia’s pharmaceutical and food industries, bringing valuable expertise and investment opportunities to the collaboration.
The proposed investment plan is projected to reach a value of trillions of rupiah, marking a concrete synergy between the government and the private sector in realizing the national health mission.
This major investment will not only focus on industrial development, but will also open up new jobs in Indonesia and encourage the empowerment of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the pharmaceutical and food sectors.
This step is expected to accelerate local economic growth while improving the quality of domestic products according to international standards.
This visit strengthens the strategic relationship between Indonesia and India , not only in the field of trade, but also in technology transfer, improving product standards, and research collaboration in the pharmaceutical and food sectors.
BPOM RI is committed to continuing to monitor the implementation of this collaboration to ensure optimal benefits for the health of the Indonesian people.
