Sampoerna Academy Students Showcase 162 Green Energy Projects at STEAM Expo

In a remarkable display of innovation and environmental consciousness, students from Sampoerna Academy have unveiled 162 projects centered on green energy at the STEAM Expo 2025. This annual event underscores the institution's commitment to fostering critical thinking and problem-solving skills among its students, with a particular emphasis on sustainable and eco-friendly solutions.

Beeswax Food Wrap: A Sustainable Alternative

One standout project is the Beeswax Food Wrap, developed by Grade 5 students Elmer, Jocelyn, Keinand, and Rakha from Sampoerna Academy BSD Tangerang. This innovative solution addresses the global challenge of plastic waste by offering a reusable and environmentally friendly alternative for food storage. By utilizing natural beeswax, the wrap not only preserves food freshness but also significantly reduces reliance on single-use plastics.

Homemade Air Cooler: Eco-Friendly Cooling Solution

Another notable project is the Homemade Air Cooler, presented by Grade 5C students Anna, Marion, Elric, and Habibi from Sampoerna Academy L’Avenue. This eco-friendly cooling system aims to minimize the emission of chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) into the atmosphere by providing an alternative to traditional air conditioning units. The design incorporates sustainable materials and energy-efficient mechanisms, making it both cost-effective and environmentally friendly.

Antibacterial Bar Soap: Harnessing Natural Resources

From Sampoerna Academy Sentul, Grade 7 students Alicia Hamdani and Clairine Isabelle Ziliwu have developed an Antibacterial Bar Soap utilizing extracts from rambutan leaves. Rich in flavonoids with antimicrobial properties, this natural ingredient offers an effective defense against bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus. The project not only showcases the potential of local natural resources but also promotes the use of eco-friendly personal care products.

Fostering a Culture of Innovation and Sustainability

The STEAM Expo serves as a platform for young innovators to engage with industry leaders, educators, and peers, facilitating the exchange of ideas and collaborative learning. Through this event, Sampoerna Academy aims to equip students with the skills necessary to tackle global challenges, particularly in the realm of sustainable development. School Director Mustafa Guvercin emphasized the importance of such initiatives, stating that they prepare students to become future leaders capable of devising innovative solutions to pressing environmental issues.

By integrating the STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) education model, Sampoerna Academy encourages a holistic learning approach that emphasizes collaboration and personalized learning. This methodology enables students to pursue inquiries that resonate with their personal interests, fostering a deeper engagement with the subject matter and promoting the development of practical solutions to real-world problems.

The diverse array of projects presented at the expo reflects the students' dedication to environmental stewardship and their ability to apply interdisciplinary knowledge to create impactful solutions. As these young innovators continue to explore and develop green energy initiatives, they contribute significantly to the global movement toward sustainability and environmental conservation.
