BYD Hits 4.2 Million Vehicle Sales in 2024

BYD, a leading Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer, achieved a record-breaking milestone in 2024. According to Car News China, the company sold 4,272,145 New Energy Vehicles (NEVs), marking a 41.3% growth compared to 2023.

This remarkable achievement includes sales of 1,764,992 Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs), which accounted for 41.5% of the total. The Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) segment led the charge with 2,485,378 units sold, representing 58.5% of the company’s sales and a 72.8% increase from 2023.

BYD’s shift away from conventional vehicles began in April 2022, focusing entirely on NEVs, including BEVs, PHEVs, and Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles (FCEVs). December 2024 proved to be a pivotal month, with the company selling 509,440 units—a 49.8% increase from the previous year. This is the third consecutive month that BYD’s sales exceeded the 500,000-unit mark.

In the commercial vehicle sector, BYD recorded sales of 5,369 units in December 2024, reflecting a staggering 520% year-over-year growth. Total commercial vehicle sales for the year reached 21,775 units.

BYD’s global presence also expanded significantly in 2024. The company exported 417,204 vehicles, up 71.9% from 2023, with December exports reaching 57,154 units—a 58% increase year-over-year. This underscores BYD’s growing influence in international markets.

Notably, BYD remains a top player in the battery manufacturing sector, ranking as China’s second-largest battery supplier. The company provides batteries to industry giants like Toyota, Tesla, and Nio, cementing its position as a critical player in the global electric vehicle ecosystem.
