Startup for Industry Bridges Tech Gap for IKM

The Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) is accelerating small and medium-sized industries (IKM) by implementing appropriate technologies to enhance production, management, and marketing. This effort aligns with its initiative to mentor startups that provide technological solutions for IKM business development.

“IKM plays a strategic role in driving Indonesia's economy but faces challenges in adopting technology. The Startup for Industry (SFI) program bridges this gap with innovative tech solutions,” said Reni Yanita, Director General of Small, Medium, and Various Industries (IKMA).

Recently, Kemenperin rebranded its Startup4Industry program to a more integrated technological ecosystem called Startup for Industry (SFI). This new ecosystem focuses on expanding collaboration networks and offering multidisciplinary tech solutions to boost competitiveness and digital economic growth.

“We invite stakeholders, including universities, research institutions, local governments, associations, and industry players, to join this ecosystem,” Reni emphasized.

With Indonesia's digital economy projected to reach USD 90 billion by 2024, the program aims to empower startups to create impactful solutions. “This rebranding will propel the program further, contributing significantly to advancing Indonesia’s industrial and digital economy,” Reni added.

Since its inception in 2018, Startup for Industry has linked 1,319 startups with 1,927 industry players and 80 investors locally and internationally. “Cross-sector collaboration is crucial to the program's success. The newly launched Technology Solution Ecosystem Booth showcases innovations from SFI-supported startups,” said Dini Hanggandari, Director of Metal, Machinery, Electronics, and Transportation Equipment Industries.

Dini highlighted the importance of startups in addressing societal challenges and promoting smart city development. “Collaboration with academia, research institutions, and local governments enriches this ecosystem, supporting growth in digital solutions and innovation.”
