The Indonesian Ministry of Agriculture, through its Youth Entrepreneurship and Employment Support Services (YESS) Program, hosted the Agribusiness Expo and Talkshow on December 20, 2024, at the Malang Creative Center (MCC) in Malang City. This event aimed to cultivate proficient young entrepreneurs and enhance workforce competence within the agricultural sector. M. Syaikhu, M.Agr, Technical Deputy of the YESS-PPIU East Java Program, emphasized that the expo was a strategic effort to promote agricultural products developed by young entrepreneurs in Malang. He highlighted the diverse range of high-quality products, including coffee, various beverages, and poultry and livestock items, produced by local youth. "We must introduce this to the public," Syaikhu stated, underscoring the importance of public awareness and market reach for these products.
The YESS Program is designed to generate a competent workforce of youth rural entrepreneurs as strong and quality millennial entrepreneurs in agriculture. By encouraging youth participation in agriculture, the program contributes to the national goal of achieving food self-sufficiency by 2025. Syaikhu noted that such activities are instrumental in exploring and showcasing the superior products of millennial farmers in Malang, thereby fostering sustainable development in the sector.
The expo also served to increase community interest, particularly among millennials, in pursuing opportunities within agriculture.
By introducing superior products from YESS program beneficiaries, the event demonstrated the tangible benefits and potential success attainable in this field.
In Malang, the YESS Program has made significant strides, with 271 beneficiaries receiving competitive grants totaling approximately Rp7 billion to support their entrepreneurial activities.
Overall, the program has reached around 12,000 individuals in the region, indicating a substantial impact on the local agricultural landscape. The Agribusiness Expo and Talkshow not only provided a platform for young entrepreneurs to display their products but also facilitated knowledge exchange and networking opportunities.
