VinGroup Brings Electric Taxis to Indonesia: What to Expect

Jakarta, December 18, 2024 — VinGroup has officially introduced its all-electric taxi service in Indonesia, marking a significant milestone in its “Go Green Global” strategy. Indonesia becomes the third Southeast Asian nation to adopt this initiative, following successful launches in Vietnam and Laos.

The launch event in Jakarta was attended by key government representatives, including Dr. Riyatno, Indonesia’s Deputy of Investment Climate Development, and Mr. Ta Van Thong, Vietnam’s Ambassador to Indonesia. Representatives from multiple embassies and nearly 100 strategic partners of VinGroup were also present, reflecting the global attention this launch has garnered.

VinGroup’s electric taxis will operate during Indonesia's peak travel season, featuring a fleet of VinFast Limogreen vehicles. These electric cars offer an emission-free, noise-free, and fuel-odor-free experience, aiming to set a new standard for comfort and sustainability in Indonesia’s ride-hailing market.

Nguyen Van Thanh, Global CEO of GSM (a subsidiary of VinGroup), emphasized Indonesia's alignment with the company’s mission. “Indonesia’s commitment to achieving Net Zero by 2060 aligns perfectly with our goal to lead the global transition to electric transportation. This launch signifies more than just mobility—it’s a movement towards a sustainable future,” he stated.

Government officials shared their optimism about the project. Dr. Riyatno highlighted the critical role of clean energy services in reducing emissions and fostering Indonesia’s green economy. He called for continued investments in sustainable initiatives, noting that services like VinGroup’s electric taxis pave the way for innovation and improved quality of life.

As part of the launch celebration, Indonesian customers can enjoy a 30% discount (up to IDR 50,000) for two rides daily from December 18–22, 2024. Rides can be booked through the app, via a hotline, or by hailing taxis with green lights at designated public spots in Jakarta.

Vietnam’s Ambassador to Indonesia, Mr. Ta Van Thong, acknowledged the broader implications of this partnership for bilateral trade. “With VinGroup leading this initiative, we hope it inspires more Vietnamese businesses to contribute to Indonesia’s development,” he said, adding that this reflects the strong economic ties between the two nations.

Since its inception in Vietnam in April 2023, VinGroup’s electric taxi service has become a leader in green transportation across the region. The expansion into Indonesia represents a critical step forward in its mission to drive sustainability and innovation on a global scale.
