The Indonesian Telecommunications Network Operators Association (APJATEL) has reported progress in organizing fiber optic cable infrastructure across Jabodetabek, Serang, and Banten, covering 604.771 kilometers across 363 locations, with 201.553 kilometers still under active development.
The progress was presented during APJATEL's 2026 National Working Meeting (Rakernas), held at Hotel Episode Gading Serpong, Tangerang, on Wednesday (04/11).
APJATEL Fiber Optic Cable Arrangement Reaches 604.771 Kilometers
According to APJATEL's 2021–2026 work program data, presented during an October coordination meeting, cable arrangement activities have covered 363 locations across Jabodetabek, Serang, and Banten, with a total length of 604.771 kilometers.
Of this total, 281 locations covering 403.218 kilometers have been completed, while work at 82 locations covering 201.553 kilometers remains in progress.
APJATEL Chairman Jerry Siregar said the association continues to encourage improvements in fiber optic infrastructure management to make cable networks more coordinated, secure, and sustainable.
"Besides network capacity challenges, APJATEL is paying considerable attention to organizing fiber optic cable infrastructure so that it becomes more coordinated, secure, and sustainable," Jerry said.
The measures include gradually moving overhead cable networks underground in cooperation with local governments, relocating utility poles through integrated arrangements, and organizing cables along major roads.
Indonesia's Fiber Optic Infrastructure Covers 72.11% of Subdistricts
During the meeting, Jerry also referred to the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs' 2025 Performance Report, which outlined the development of Indonesia's national fiber optic infrastructure.
The report recorded approximately 1.02 million kilometers of terrestrial fiber optic networks and 131,200 kilometers of submarine fiber optic infrastructure.
Telecommunications service coverage has reached 5,253 of Indonesia's 7,285 subdistricts, equivalent to 72.11% of the total.
These figures reflect the development of national connectivity infrastructure while showing that further network coverage expansion is still needed.
To improve the efficiency of cable arrangement activities, APJATEL is encouraging the integration of infrastructure development programs among regional government agencies (OPD) at provincial, city, and regency levels.
The coordination covers planning for improvements to public infrastructure, including roads, sidewalks, pedestrian bridges, and drainage systems. It also includes integrated licensing procedures and joint field surveys.
APJATEL Promotes Collaboration and Infrastructure Readiness for AI
APJATEL's 2026 National Working Meeting carried the theme "Connect. Collaborate. Accelerate." More than 300 participants attended, including association members and partners, telecommunications industry representatives, government officials, and policymakers.
The meeting established five strategic objectives: strengthening cooperation among 174 permanent members and 60 partner members, developing organizational work directions, communicating members' aspirations, improving infrastructure readiness for the artificial intelligence era, and establishing concrete measures to support Indonesia's digital transformation sovereignty.
The event also included the launch of APJATEL's updated official website, which was designed to expand public access to information about the association's activities.
Discussions at the meeting highlighted the importance of telecommunications infrastructure in supporting the growing adoption of artificial intelligence (AI).
The panel discussion featured Wijaya Kusumawardhana, Expert Staff for Social, Economic and Cultural Affairs at the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs, and Abraham S. Bernardus, Vice President of Business at Centratama Group. APJATEL First Deputy Chairman M. Tri Prasetya moderated the discussion.
The speakers emphasized that AI development requires reliable, high-capacity, and evenly distributed connectivity infrastructure throughout Indonesia.
Fiber Optic Networks Support Data Centers and Cloud Computing
Fiber optic networks are not only used for conventional data transmission but also serve as essential infrastructure for data centers, cloud computing services, and modern digital applications that require high-speed connectivity.
The discussions at the National Working Meeting highlighted the importance of ensuring that telecommunications infrastructure can support the connectivity requirements associated with AI development.
APJATEL's National Working Meeting is held in accordance with the association's Articles of Association and Bylaws (AD/ART). The meeting serves as an important forum for ensuring that all members share a common understanding and direction.
