BCA and Bank Indonesia's Riau Islands office (BI Kepri) are educating more than 200 vendors at two traditional markets in Batam about digital payments and consumer protection through the GERAI Pasar QRIS program, which runs from October 1 to 31, 2026 (09/10).
BCA and BI Kepri Target Traditional Market Vendors
PT Bank Central Asia Tbk (BCA) and BI Kepri are conducting the GERAI (Gerakan Edukasi dan Akuisisi) Pasar QRIS program at Pasar Bengkong and Pasar Mitra Raya in Batam. The initiative aims to increase vendors' understanding of QRIS and the importance of consumer protection in digital transactions.
BCA said the program supports wider access to digital transactions, including efforts to promote digitalization in traditional markets.
“Through the GERAI Pasar QRIS Program, BCA wants to help market traders better understand and use digital transactions that are safe, fast, easy, and affordable,” said I Ketut Alam Wangsawijaya, EVP of BCA's Merchant Business Division.
QRIS Education Supports Digital Transactions
The program aims to help vendors understand the benefits of QRIS and provide customers with more payment options. BCA expects the initiative to support business activities and offer the public a more practical transaction experience.
“We hope that education about QRIS and consumer protection can support traders' business activities while providing the public with a more practical transaction experience,” Ketut said.
Vendors also have the opportunity to participate in an award program based on the highest frequency of QRIS transactions during the one-month program period.
BCA said it would continue to strengthen collaboration and provide payment solutions relevant to businesses, including those operating in traditional markets. The program is also expected to deliver ongoing benefits to vendors and the public at Pasar Bengkong and Pasar Mitra Raya.
BCA Provides Market Infrastructure Support in Batam
In addition to digital payment education, BCA and BI Kepri are providing support based on the needs of each market to improve the trading environment.
At Pasar Bengkong, BCA provided 97 stall numbers to help organize the market. At Pasar Mitra Raya, the bank supplied 32 trash bins and signboards to support cleanliness and improve the comfort of the market environment.
The support is intended to create a more comfortable setting for market activities and complement the program's digital payment education efforts.
Consumer Protection Remains Part of QRIS Education
BCA and BI Kepri are emphasizing consumer protection as part of their efforts to promote digital transactions among traditional market vendors. The program aims to help traders understand both QRIS usage and the importance of protecting consumers during digital transactions.
“Through our collaboration in the GERAI Pasar QRIS Program, we hope that market traders will not only gain a better understanding of QRIS usage but also develop a sound understanding of consumer protection. In this way, digitalization can benefit both traders and the public as consumers,” Ketut said.
