Indonesian-Built AI Startup Dokai Acquired by Bolt.new in Its First Acquisition

Bolt.new, an AI-powered application development platform built by StackBlitz, has acquired San Francisco-based AI startup Dokai in its first acquisition (29/09). The transaction value was not disclosed.

Dokai was founded by Gerry Fernando Patia and Rio Atmadja, two Indonesian talents who built their careers in Silicon Valley. Following the acquisition, the two co-founders and the entire Dokai team will join Bolt.new's artificial intelligence and machine learning organization.

The acquisition adds Dokai's autonomous agent technology to the Bolt.new platform. Dokai's team also brings experience in deploying autonomous agents directly within enterprise systems.

Bolt.new Expands Enterprise AI Capabilities With Dokai

Dokai developed autonomous AI agents to automate complex and repetitive work inside enterprise software.

Its agents could execute multi-step workflows covering prospect research, account prioritization and tiering, data enrichment, and customer relationship management operations.

The acquisition comes as Bolt.new's enterprise business continues to grow. According to the company, roughly half of its enterprise customers begin building applications before their contracts are signed.

Bolt.new also said the average customer deploys its first application within 34 days.

Dokai's technology will become part of the Bolt.new platform. Its orchestration layer was designed to allow AI agents to plan and complete multi-step work inside enterprise systems without a person in the loop.

Inside Bolt.new, the technology will support agents handling complex and longer-running builds. It will also help applications created by customers connect with enterprise systems, including CRMs and internal data sources.

Enterprise customers will see the first capabilities built using Dokai technology in late fall.

Gerry Patia and Rio Atmadja Founded Dokai in Silicon Valley

Gerry Patia and Rio Atmadja established Dokai to develop AI agents that could automate complex and repetitive work within enterprise software.

Before founding Dokai, Gerry led an AI infrastructure project at Robinhood, a digital investment platform in the United States. He studied Computer Science at California State Polytechnic University-Pomona.

Rio has experience working at multinational companies and in the US financial sector. He studied at Boston University and began his career in R&D Operations at Pfizer from 2017 to 2018.

Rio later worked at Bank of America Merrill Lynch and First Republic Bank. From 2021 to 2023, he managed Go-to-Market strategy at equity management company Carta.

Dokai's development received support from investors including Character Capital and ERA.

The company initially focused on teaching AI to learn enterprise workflows through demonstrations. It later developed into an AI go-to-market engineering platform for enterprise sales teams.

Dokai Focused on Autonomous Enterprise Sales Workflows

Dokai's autonomous agents were designed to carry out multiple tasks across enterprise systems.

These workflows included prospect research, account prioritization and tiering, data enrichment, and CRM operations. The technology turned natural-language instructions into work carried out directly across enterprise systems.

Bolt.new and Dokai share the view that natural language can be used as an interface for complex workflows, replacing the need for users to interact directly with computer code.

Both companies developed autonomous AI systems that can take action, but their applications differed. Dokai's agents operated in sales workflows, while Bolt.new applies natural language to software development.

Bolt.new and Dokai Share a Natural Language AI Vision

Gerry Fernando Patia said Dokai was built around the belief that natural language could be used to run production workflows inside enterprise systems.

"We built Dokai on the belief that natural language could run production workflows inside enterprise systems. Joining Bolt.new gives that belief the biggest canvas there is: software itself," said Gerry Fernando Patia, co-founder of Dokai.

Bolt.new CEO and co-founder Eric Simons said the Dokai team's experience in building agents that operate inside enterprise systems was a reason for the acquisition.

"Enterprise buyers don't care whether an agent demos well. They care whether it does the work every day, inside the systems they already run. The Dokai team has been doing exactly that, and it's why we wanted them building with us," said Eric Simons, CEO and co-founder of Bolt.new.

Bolt.new, built by StackBlitz, is an AI-powered platform for full-stack web development. Users can build, run, and deploy complete applications through natural language.

The platform integrates with Microsoft Azure and Microsoft 365 to bring AI-native development to enterprise teams worldwide.
