PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia (Persero) Tbk launched BRImo Taiwan to make financial services easier and more accessible for Indonesians in Taiwan, particularly Indonesian migrant workers (PMI). The application was launched in New Taipei City Hall, Taiwan, on Sunday (23/08).
BRI President Director Hery Gunardi said BRImo Taiwan is intended to make banking services easier, faster, safer and closer to Indonesians in Taiwan.
“The presence of BRI in Taiwan is not merely about opening an office or providing digital services. It is about being closer to Indonesians who work, contribute, and build their future in Taiwan. We want BRI to be a bridge that connects financial needs in Taiwan with families and various needs in Indonesia,” Hery said in a statement in Jakarta on Sunday.
BRI said BRImo Taiwan is relevant because Taiwan is one of the main destinations for Indonesian migrant workers, with significant economic activity and remittance flows.
Through easier digital banking access, BRI also wants PMI to use banking services not only for transactions and money transfers but also to better understand the importance of managing finances safely, in a planned manner and sustainably.
Taiwan Remittances Reach $2.97 Billion in 2025
The significant role of Indonesian migrant workers in Taiwan in the national economy is reflected in remittances sent to Indonesia.
Based on Bank Indonesia data, remittances from Indonesian migrant workers in Taiwan reached around $2.97 billion in 2025, equivalent to approximately Rp47 trillion to Rp48 trillion when converted at an exchange rate of around Rp16,000 per US dollar.
The figure was more than twice the $1.37 billion recorded in 2021.
BRI Taipei Branch Strengthens Financial Services
The launch of BRImo Taiwan is a continuation of BRI's efforts to strengthen banking services for Indonesians in Taiwan.
One year after BRI strengthened its presence through the BRI Taipei Branch in Zhongsan District, the branch's total assets had reached more than $408 million.
Taiwan-Indonesia remittance transactions had also reached around $490 million through the end of July 2026, while BRI had served more than 3,400 accounts.
BRImo Taiwan Provides 24-Hour Digital Banking
Through BRI Taipei Branch, BRI provides BRImo Taiwan as a digital banking ecosystem that integrates various daily financial transaction services.
The service can be accessed 24 hours a day.
Under the supervision of Danantara, BRI said BRImo Taiwan is also directly supervised by Taiwan's Central Deposit Insurance Corporation (CDIC) and Financial Supervisory Commission (FSC).
The company said BRImo Taiwan is designed to make cross-border financial services easier to access and provide services that are safe, fast and transparent.
