Kasih Ibu Hospital Group's Digital Transformation Milestone
Kasih Ibu Hospital Group, headquartered in Denpasar, Bali, has achieved a major milestone by being validated for Stage 6 of the HIMSS Electronic Medical Record Adoption Model (EMRAM). This distinction highlights its leadership in advancing digital healthcare capabilities in Indonesia. The eight-stage EMRAM model measures the maturity of hospitals' electronic medical record (EMR) capabilities, with Stage 6 showcasing advanced integration and patient safety initiatives.
Pioneering Digital Healthcare in Bali
Starting as a maternity hospital in 1987, Kasih Ibu has evolved into a general hospital and expanded to four branches across Bali. Its flagship hospital in Denpasar spearheaded digital transformation initiatives, including implementing a business intelligence platform, Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS), and Laboratory Information System (LIS). These advancements culminated in the adoption of Vesalius-powered EMR in 2018.
HIMSS validators noted groundbreaking features like an automated Early Warning Scoring (EWS) system integrated with Philips technology, capable of detecting patient deterioration in real-time. Additionally, the hospital has rolled out a Clinical Decision Support System (CDSS), a patient engagement portal called KIH Connect, and closed-loop management systems across all departments.
Impact on Healthcare Standards
Achieving Stage 6 positions Kasih Ibu as a leader in Indonesian healthcare, with President Krishna Duarsa emphasizing the importance of continuous system monitoring and improvement. Utilizing tools like Tableau for performance analysis ensures the hospital meets international standards. The hospital also aims to achieve Stage 7 validation by integrating with Indonesia’s SatuSehat data exchange platform.
Beyond Bali: Inspiring Regional Healthcare
Kasih Ibu is only the second Indonesian healthcare provider to achieve Stage 6, following Jakarta-based Pondok Indah Hospital Group. Its success underscores the potential for advanced healthcare capabilities outside the capital. Globally, institutions like Hong Kong’s Hospital Authority and Taiwan’s Chang Gung Memorial Hospital continue setting benchmarks by achieving Stage 7.
Strategic Location and International Standards
As a hospital located in a global tourism hub, Kasih Ibu Hospital aligns its services with international insurance standards. This ensures high-quality care for both local patients and Bali’s significant expatriate and tourist population. The HIMSS EMRAM validation not only enhances operational efficiency and patient safety but also builds trust among diverse communities.
Future Outlook
Kasih Ibu plans to continue investing in digital healthcare innovations, solidifying its role as a premier healthcare provider. Its focus on integrating cutting-edge technologies aligns with Indonesia’s broader vision of advancing healthcare beyond urban centers.
