PT Bank Central Asia Tbk (BCA) has enabled QRIS Cross Border between Indonesia and China through its myBCA and BCA mobile applications, allowing Indonesians to transact in China and Chinese tourists to pay at QRIS BCA merchants in Indonesia (05/05).
This initiative aims to provide a safe, easy, and efficient digital payment ecosystem for cross-border transactions and international tourism spending.
Bank Indonesia Expands Regional Payment System Connectivity
The implementation is part of a strategic initiative led by Bank Indonesia to strengthen regional payment connectivity.
It also supports the expansion of Local Currency Transaction, enabling international transactions without the need for cash exchange.
QR-Based Transactions Improve Efficiency and Reduce Risk
The system allows users to conduct international transactions more practically by scanning QR codes.
This approach helps reduce exposure to exchange rate volatility and encourages more efficient trade and investment flows.
BCA Reports Strong Growth in QRIS Cross-Border Usage
BCA President Director Hendra Lembong stated that the bank supports payment system innovations introduced by Bank Indonesia, including QRIS Cross-Border expansion.
“BCA gladly welcomes the implementation of QRIS Cross-Border Indonesia-China as part of the transformation of national digital payment systems. The presence of this service will hopefully bring ease for customers while conducting transactions abroad, as well as provide an opportunity for merchants to accept transactions from international tourists, while additionally strengthening economic and tourism connectivity between Indonesia and China,” he said.
As of the first quarter of 2026, transaction frequency processed by BCA increased by 355% year-on-year, while transaction value rose by 318%.
QRIS Cross Border Available Across Six Countries
Currently, Indonesian users can use QRIS Cross Border in Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Japan, South Korea, and China.
Tourists from these countries can also use QR payments in Indonesia by scanning QR codes on BCA EDC machines.
How Customers Use QRIS Cross Border via BCA Apps
Users can access the service through myBCA or BCA mobile by selecting the QRIS feature and scanning a QR code.
The transaction amount is automatically converted into rupiah, and payment is confirmed using a PIN.
“Through supporting the implementation of QRIS Cross Border, BCA is committed to continue providing digital payment solutions that are relevant to our customers' needs and support the strengthening of the international digital transaction ecosystem,” Hendra Lembong added.
