PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (BNI) has launched the “Wonder Earth” feature in the wondr by BNI app, enabling customers to calculate their carbon footprint and plant trees to offset daily emissions (09/04).
BNI Corporate Secretary Okki Rushartomo said this initiative demonstrates the bank’s commitment to promoting sustainable lifestyles through digital services that meet customers’ needs.
"Through the wonder earth feature, BNI invites customers to contribute directly to environmental protection. Customers can not only calculate their carbon footprint but also plant trees and transparently monitor their contribution, from the location to the tree's growth," Okki said in a written statement.
How the Wonder Earth Feature Works
Customers can use the carbon calculator in the app to measure the environmental impact of their daily activities. The results provide recommendations for the number of trees to plant to offset their carbon footprint.
To participate, customers open the Lifestyle menu in the wondr by BNI app, follow the carbon footprint calculation process, and select a planting location. After verifying their data and confirming their funding source, they can purchase tree seedlings.
Transparent Tracking of Tree Planting
After a successful transaction, contributions can be monitored through the “Your Contribution” feature. This shows information about the planted trees, including location and growth progress, ensuring transparency for users.
BNI believes this approach integrates digital banking with environmental conservation while raising awareness of carbon emission management.
"Through this innovation, BNI hopes that more customers will be involved in real actions to protect the environment and support sustainable carbon emission reduction," Okki emphasized.
Supporting Sustainable Banking Practices
The Wonder Earth initiative strengthens BNI’s focus on sustainable financial practices, providing services that go beyond transactions and encourage collective participation in protecting the environment.
