PT Bank Syariah Indonesia Tbk (BSI) reported a significant increase in zakat, infak, sedekah, and wakaf (ZISWAF) transactions during the first three weeks of Ramadan 1447 Hijriah (15/03).
Total funds collected through various BSI channels reached Rp30 billion, nearly double the Rp16 billion recorded in January.
Transactions were carried out via the BYOND superapp, ATM networks, branch offices, and interbank transfers.
BYOND Superapp Facilitates Digital Giving
Anton Sukarna, BSI’s Director of Sales and Distribution, said Ramadan is an important time for society to strengthen social and spiritual activities using Islamic financial services.
He said, “The public’s preference for Islamic financial services continues to increase. Ramadan is a moment for Muslims to share more, and BSI is here to facilitate that spirit through various sharing features in BYOND.”
Through the BYOND app’s “Berbagi” feature, customers can perform zakat, infak, wakaf, and donation transactions across a variety of social programs.
For this Ramadan, BSI offered initiatives such as THR packages for orphans, iftar and suhoor packages, and Ramadan parcels for underprivileged communities.
Ramadan Programs Support Social Responsibility
As part of its Ramadan social initiatives, BSI invited 50 orphans to shop for Lebaran clothes at Rabbani, East Jakarta.
The activity demonstrates BSI’s commitment to utilizing ZISWAF as a social finance instrument that benefits society while increasing awareness of halal lifestyle choices.
Integration with 49 LAZ Expands Access
The “Berbagi” feature in BYOND is integrated with 49 official Indonesian Amil Zakat institutions (LAZ). During Ramadan, zakat payments through the app rose by 56%, along with growth in infak, donation, and fidyah transactions. This indicates strong community engagement through digital platforms.
Digital Transformation Strengthens BSI’s Reach
BSI’s BYOND app has reached 5.9 million users, growing 197% year-on-year, predominantly among Gen Z and millennials. Annual digital transactions now exceed 500 million.
Sukarna said, “Ramadan is an important moment for Islamic banks to be closer to society. Through BYOND, we want to provide alternative services that not only make financial transactions easier but also strengthen social and spiritual activities in society.”
BSI plans to continue developing BYOND to reach wider audiences and strengthen its 23 million-strong customer base.
He added, “Going forward, BSI will continue to innovate in developing BYOND so that it can reach broader segments of society while strengthening our current 23 million customer base.”
