Pertamina and Pindad Debut Ultrasonic Oil and Gas Pipeline Inspection Technology to Boost Indonesia’s Energy Self‑Sufficiency

Pertamina strengthened its efforts to achieve National Energy Self-Sufficiency through a strategic technology collaboration with PT Pindad (Persero) by testing the Pertastream technology and signing a Natural Gas Joint Study Agreement in Bandung (06/01).

The collaboration focuses on the development and validation of domestically produced energy technology.

Pertastream Marks a Milestone in Domestic Oil and Gas Pipeline Inspection

The synergy between the two state-owned enterprises aims to reduce dependence on foreign technology.

Pertastream is Indonesia’s first ultrasonic-based oil and gas pipeline inspection technology developed through collaboration between Pertamina, Elnusa, and Pindad.

The technology is designed to detect corrosion and cracks in pipelines with high accuracy.

Compared to conventional methods, Pertastream is lighter and more efficient, supporting the reliability of energy distribution infrastructure across Indonesia.

Pertamina Highlights Technology Independence as Key to Energy Sovereignty

President Director of PT Pertamina (Persero), Simon Aloysius Mantiri, said the innovation reflects Pertamina’s commitment to protecting national energy sovereignty.

“Technological independence is the key to achieving energy self-sufficiency. With Pertastream, we ensure that oil and gas pipeline infrastructure from upstream to downstream remains reliable and safe independently. This is our contribution as Indonesians who love our homeland, for the progress and interests of the nation,” Simon said.

He added that the technology will undergo non-commercial validation before broader implementation.

“This is not merely a business collaboration, but a shared mission to increase national added value,” he stated, accompanied by Pertamina Vice President Director Oki Muraza.

Joint Study Agreement Expands Cooperation in Natural Gas Technology

In addition to inspection technology, Pertamina and Pindad agreed to conduct a joint study on natural gas-based technology applications.

The study aims to optimize domestic gas potential as a transition energy to support national energy independence.

“Hopefully, the collaboration between PT Pindad and Pertamina will continue to progress. Together, as Indonesians who love the Red and White, we dedicate all our efforts not only to company progress, but for the advancement and interests of the nation and the state,” Simon said.

Pindad Supports Long-Term Sustainability of the National Energy Sector

President Director of PT Pindad, Sigit P. Santosa, appreciated Pertamina’s support for the collaboration.

He expressed hope that the partnership would provide concrete benefits for the sustainability of Indonesia’s oil and gas sector.

“This synergy proves that strengthening the national defense industry and the national energy industry can go hand in hand to support Indonesia’s grand vision,” Sigit said.

Pertamina also reaffirmed its commitment as a leader in the energy transition by supporting the Net Zero Emission 2060 target and contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals.

These efforts align with Pertamina’s transformation focused on governance, public service, business sustainability, environmental responsibility, and the application of Environmental, Social, and Governance principles across its operations.
