DANA Issues 5 Digital Transaction Security Tips Ahead of Christmas and New Year Holidays

DANA shared five digital transaction security tips as public activity and online spending increase ahead of the Christmas and New Year holiday season in Indonesia (19/12). The initiative aims to help users stay alert amid rising risks of digital fraud such as scams and phishing.

The Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs has targeted total public spending of IDR 120 trillion during the 2025 Christmas and New Year holiday period. While digital transactions make shopping, travel bookings, and donations easier, they also create greater exposure to cybercrime.

1. Treat PINs and OTPs as Keys to Your Digital Wallet

DANA reminded users to treat PINs and one-time passwords (OTPs) like house keys. These codes are the main access to digital wallets and must remain confidential.

Users are advised to ignore unsolicited OTP requests. If no transaction or login is in progress, log out from all devices or change the PIN immediately to prevent unauthorized access.

2. Double-Check Transaction Details When Sending Digital Gifts

The holiday season involves sending gifts, including e-wallet balance transfers. DANA advised users to review recipient numbers, names, and transfer amounts carefully before confirming.

For DANA users, the Smart Friction feature provides an additional confirmation step when transferring funds to suspicious numbers.

3. Avoid Public Wi-Fi for Financial Transactions

Holiday activities often take place in public venues such as cafés, restaurants, or travel hubs. Using public Wi-Fi for financial transactions exposes users to malware and data interception.

DANA recommends using private networks or mobile data, and avoiding apps or websites containing sensitive information when on public networks.

4. Use Multi-Factor Authentication for Extra Security

Multi-factor authentication (MFA) adds an extra layer of protection. DANA encourages users to activate features like PINs and Passkeys through DANA Protection, linking credentials to Google or Apple accounts.

This ensures accounts remain secure even if login credentials are compromised.

5. Regularly Monitor Your Balance and Transaction History

During the busy holiday period, users may forget to check their accounts. Routine monitoring can detect irregular activity early.

Users can take action by blocking accounts, changing PINs, or contacting customer service. DANA also provides mobile help posts and expert consultations for account protection.

“Holiday time should be calm and enjoyable with loved ones, not a period to worry about digital security. Therefore, we at DANA continue to provide layered protection technology and education so users can carry out transactions without concern. Let us increase vigilance together and actively enable optimal security settings,” said Zikry Zakiyulfuyadi, Vice President of Technical Operations at DANA Indonesia.
