Indosat’s AI‑Driven Anti‑Spam and Anti‑Scam Feature Blocks Over 200 Million Calls in Three Months

In response to rising digital crimes and the surge of spam calls and scam messages, Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison (Indosat) has strengthened its customer protection using artificial intelligence (AI). Since its launch on 7 August 2025, Indosat’s Anti-Spam and Anti-Scam feature has blocked over 200 million risky calls, alerted users about more than 90 million suspicious messages, and protected an average of 11.5 million customers per month from potential digital fraud.

AI-Driven Protection Strengthens Digital Safety for Millions

This initiative is part of Indosat’s AIvolusi5G program, combining AI and 5G network technology to create a safe and inclusive digital experience. Operating automatically at the network level, the system filters suspicious calls and messages without requiring additional apps or special devices.

Alarming Rise in Digital Fraud Highlights Need for Advanced Security

The urgency of digital protection is reflected in the GASA State of Scams in Indonesia 2025 report, released in August. It found that 66% of Indonesian adults experienced attempted fraud in the past year, with 14% losing money totaling around Rp49 trillion (USD 3.3 billion). Most fraud occurred through direct-message platforms such as instant messaging and SMS, and 51% of victims reported experiencing stress as a result.

Bilal Khazmi, Director and Chief Commercial Officer of Indosat, said, “This technology is designed to help customers of all ages explore the digital world with greater confidence. With reliable connectivity, affordable products, and strong protection, we are committed to delivering a world-class digital experience that connects and empowers Indonesian society.”

Seamless User Experience Without Extra Apps or Premium Devices

Internal data shows that more than 290 million spam calls were identified on the VoLTE network. Since the launch of Anti-Spam and Anti-Scam, over 500 million scam calls and messages have been detected, and more than 145 million messages have been flagged as spam or scams, including 110 million fraudulent messages.

The IM3 network offers SATSPAM protection, which includes SATSPAM BASIC for prepaid users with active data packages, and SATSPAM+ for advanced detection of harmful links. Tri users benefit from TRI AI: AntiSpam/Scam, which uses a three-color system to indicate call safety: green for safe numbers, yellow for unknown, and red for risky numbers. IM3 and Tri customers can also access Plus+ protection through myIM3 and bima+ apps, which provide pop-up alerts, color-coded notifications, and call summaries.

Education and AI Collaboration Key to Long-Term Digital Security

Although the system does not block all harmful calls or messages, it acts as an early warning to reduce risks. Indosat emphasizes the Zero Trust principle—never trust and always verify—to encourage users to be cautious of suspicious messages, links, and calls.

By combining AI technology with ongoing cybersecurity education, Indosat continues to protect customers while building trust and resilience in Indonesia’s digital society.
