Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Meutya Hafid has urged internet service providers (ISPs) to offer affordable and high-quality internet access for the public, especially in areas where prices remain high.

“We ask ISPs to make their best effort to provide low-cost internet services for society,” said Meutya during a meeting with the Indonesian Internet Service Providers Association (APJII) at the Ministry’s office in Central Jakarta, Monday (October 27, 2025).

Meutya pointed out that some ISPs still set high prices in certain regions due to a lack of competition.

“Do not let the absence of competitors lead to unreasonable pricing,” she emphasized.

According to Meutya, the government understands that developing connectivity infrastructure requires large investments, but such challenges can be managed through collaboration.

“High costs are relative. Operators should be able to reduce expenses in different ways, including cooperation and infrastructure sharing,” she explained.

Transparency and Customer Rights Must Be Protected

The Minister also highlighted the importance of transparency in pricing and service quality for customers.

“I know the industry is also facing difficulties, but let’s look at which areas can be given price relief. If other regions need price adjustments, that is fine, as long as it is transparent,” she said.

Meutya further emphasized that protecting customer rights should remain a top priority.

“Customers should not be charged full fees when the network is down. That is unfair,” she stated.

ISPs Encouraged to Support an Inclusive Digital Ecosystem

Meutya expressed hope that ISPs will become government partners in developing an inclusive and fair digital ecosystem.

She said all communities should be able to enjoy internet services at reasonable prices with guaranteed quality.
