Minister Agus Gumiwang Discusses LNG and DME Opportunities with Jovo Energy

The Ministry of Industry of Indonesia is actively strengthening strategic cooperation between domestic and international industry players to accelerate the transition to a cleaner, more efficient, and sustainable energy system.

This effort aligns with the government’s policy direction to achieve national energy independence and reinforce the competitiveness of Indonesia’s green industry.

Ministry of Industry Encourages Global Cooperation in Clean Energy

"Industrial transformation toward clean energy is inevitable. The government continues to open opportunities for investments that bring innovation, efficiency, and support carbon emission reduction targets," said Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita in Jakarta, Tuesday (14/10).

This statement followed a bilateral meeting between the Minister and Jiangxi Jovo Energy Co. Ltd in Shanghai, China, on Friday (10/10).

LNG Distribution Offers Strategic Advantage for Indonesia

The Minister explained that the development of energy infrastructure—whether sourced from gas or renewable energy—is a vital component of a globally competitive industrial ecosystem.

He noted the significant potential of LNG distribution in Indonesia, considering the government is expanding the use of LNG to meet both domestic and export demands. "LNG is a flexible solution because it does not rely on pipeline networks. This technology enables energy distribution to remote areas via ships or other efficient transport modes," he stated.

Jovo Energy’s Clean Technology Capabilities Welcomed

"The government continues to expand collaboration opportunities for global energy industries to contribute to renewable energy projects in Indonesia. We welcome the role of companies like Jovo Energy, which possess expertise in clean technologies, from solar power plants to gas recycling initiatives," said the Minister.

According to him, private sector participation and international partnerships are crucial to accelerating the transition to green energy and enhancing national technological capabilities.

Investment in DME Opens Strategic Opportunities

The Minister highlighted wide investment opportunities in the Dimethyl Ether (DME) sector, which is expected to play a strategic role in reducing reliance on Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) imports. Indonesia’s domestic demand for DME is projected to reach 11 million tons per year.

"Investment in DME not only strengthens national energy resilience but also creates space for technology transfer and the advancement of domestic industrial capabilities," he explained.

In this regard, Jovo Energy could play an important role by contributing gasification expertise necessary for competitive DME production in Indonesia.

The Ministry of Industry emphasized that investment collaboration focused on energy efficiency and emission reduction will serve as a crucial foundation for Indonesia’s industrial future.
