Indonesia Coffee Industry Gains New Business Opportunities as BTN Backs ICX 2026

Indonesia Coffee Expo (ICX) 2026 has ended at Cendrawasih Hall, Jakarta International Convention Center (JICC), with PT Bank Tabungan Negara (Persero) Tbk (BTN) viewing the event as a starting point for stronger collaboration across Indonesia’s coffee ecosystem (6/9).

BTN President Director Nixon LP Napitupulu said ICX 2026 brought together business players, brands, baristas, roasters, communities, consumers and institutions in one coffee ecosystem.

“ICX 2026 may have ended, but our collaboration to take Indonesian coffee to the next level has just begun,” Nixon said.

Nixon said the connections established during ICX should continue through concrete collaboration to create new opportunities and strengthen businesses in the coffee industry.

“ICX 2026 is the starting point for collaboration within Indonesia’s coffee ecosystem. The meetings and connections that have been established need to continue into real collaboration to open new opportunities, strengthen businesses, and jointly advance Indonesia’s coffee ecosystem,” Nixon said.

The ICX 2026 series was held in Surabaya, Medan and Jakarta, showing strong public interest and the economic potential of Indonesia’s coffee industry.

Surabaya recorded more than 16,500 visitors and sales volume of around Rp3 billion. Medan recorded more than 7,700 visitors and sales volume of around Rp1.5 billion, while Jakarta recorded around 20,000 visitors and Rp3.6 billion in sales volume as of Saturday (05/09).

Coffee Develops Into an Economic Ecosystem

Nixon said the results showed that coffee has grown beyond a commodity and developed into an economic ecosystem connecting experience, community and commerce.

“These figures show that coffee has developed into an economic ecosystem that brings together experience, community, and commerce,” he said.

Indonesia has several strengths to support its coffee industry, including diverse coffee origins, creativity, talent, local brands and coffee culture.

Nixon said the challenge is to connect these strengths from upstream to downstream through collaboration, innovation and digitalization.

He hopes more local coffee businesses can grow into national brands and compete in global markets.

BTN also aims to support this growth through transaction services and digitalization.

BTN Promotes Digital Transactions for Coffee Businesses

Through balé by BTN, the bank is promoting an easier, safer and seamless transaction experience.

For BTN, digitalization is not only about changing conventional transactions into digital ones. It should also improve user experience, expand markets and create new opportunities for businesses.

Nixon urged everyone involved in ICX 2026 to continue the connections made during the exhibition through concrete collaboration.

“Do not just take coffee home. Take home new connections, new inspiration, and new collaborations. Let us continue what was started at ICX into real collaboration after this event is over,” he said.

The final day of ICX Jakarta 2026 also featured interactive activities, educational sessions, competitions and business networking.

One of the sessions was Brew Talks by Arutala Coffee, titled From Roastery to Market: Building a Coffee Brand that Consumers Choose. The session discussed the process of building a coffee brand from coffee beans into a product trusted by consumers.

ICX Jakarta Highlights Barista Competition

The final day also featured the final round of the Indonesia Barista Championship (IBC) Regional 1 Jakarta.

The six finalists were I Putu Yoko Permana from Anomali Coffee, Michelle Chandra as an independent competitor, Diazka Setya Prakasa from Toko Kopi Tuku, Aga Muhammad from Ahead Coffee and Roastery, Maximillian Periatna from Ratio Coffee Brewers, and Abednego Ivan Laoh from Makmur Jaya Coffee Roaster.

The finalists advanced after passing two previous rounds.

Specialty Coffee Association of Indonesia (SCAI) Chairman Daryanto Witarsa said the competition showed the participants’ maturity in coffee preparation and presentation.

“The six finalists who took the stage today have gone through a rigorous selection process, and what we saw was not only about taste, but also how they could tell a story through the coffee they served. This is what made this year’s IBC feel more vibrant,” Daryanto said.

Dyandra Promosindo President Director Daswar Marpaung said ICX Jakarta 2026 brought together the Indonesian coffee ecosystem, including farmers, roasters, baristas, brands and coffee consumers.

“The enthusiasm we saw from young baristas, local coffee brands, and the visitors’ interest shows that Indonesia’s coffee industry continues to move forward. This is a major asset for making the country’s coffee ecosystem stronger in the future,” Daswar said.

ICX Jakarta 2026 ended with a Coffee Rave Party featuring Moluccan Soul. The event marked the completion of the Indonesia Coffee Expo 2026 series, which had previously been held in Surabaya and Medan.
