Indonesia's Garuda Spark Innovation Hub Opens in Bandung to Empower Youth Startups

Indonesia’s Ministry of Communication and Digital (Kemkomdigi) officially launched the Garuda Spark Innovation Hub at BLOCK71 Bandung, providing a new space for young Indonesians to create digital startups. The launch coincides with the 80th anniversary of Post and Telecommunications Service Day.

Minister Meutya Hafid called the event a historic moment.

“Today we are making history with the birth of the first Innovation Hub under Kemkomdigi, in collaboration with stakeholders, as a foundation for digital transformation in our country,” Meutya said.

Bandung: A City Known for Creativity, Education, and Technology

Bandung was selected for its strong identity as a center of creativity, education, and technology.

“Bandung has evolved into a city with a strong identity—known for creativity, education, and technology. That’s why we chose it for the first Garuda Spark Innovation Hub,” Meutya added.

Innovation Hub Facilities Foster Collaboration and Growth

The hub offers meeting rooms, classrooms, high-speed internet, and access to mentors, investors, and technology communities. It is designed as a space for startup founders and digital innovators to gather, discuss, and collaborate.

“Garuda Spark Innovation Hub can be a place to gather and exchange ideas, fostering innovation through new digital startups,” Meutya explained.

Nationwide Expansion with Locally Adapted Approach

Kemkomdigi plans to establish similar hubs across other cities to capture creativity from youth throughout Indonesia.

Edwin Hidayat Abdullah, Director General of Digital Ecosystem, explained the development strategy.

“Innovation must not be centralized—it must be based on each region’s unique potential and demographics,” Edwin stated.

With the slogan “From Spark to Impact,” the hub aims to transform simple ideas into impactful solutions.

Launch Attended by Key Government and Industry Leaders

The launch event was attended by Minister Meutya Hafid, Deputy Minister Nezar Patria, Secretary General Ismail, Director General Alexander Sabar, Head of BPSDM Bonifasius Wahyu Pudjianto, Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan, and representatives from telecom operators and technology communities.

The hub operates in partnership with BLOCK71 and Innovation Factory Indonesia.
