Danantara’s CEO, Rosan Roeslani, confirmed a partnership with Microsoft founder Bill Gates focused on three sectors: health, education, and water and sanitation (WASH).
During the United Nations General Assembly in the United States, Rosan explained, “The three fields, education, water, sanitation, and health, will be the main focus of our joint efforts, as conveyed by the President.”
Financial Commitment and Philanthropic Goals
Danantara Trust Fund will place an initial US$100 million this year into philanthropic programs in those sectors.
The company will also allocate 1 to 2 percent of annual dividends to support these initiatives.
Rosan added that Danantara is open to working with other philanthropic organizations to create a philanthropic hub in Indonesia.
Government Endorsement and Recognition of Bill Gates’ Contributions
In a separate statement, Indonesian Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto said Bill Gates had contributed Rp7 to Rp8 trillion to Indonesia’s health sector, based on information from Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin.
Prabowo also noted the broader impact is around US$4.5 billion. He praised Gates’ focus on research, vaccines, and medicines, describing the support as extraordinary.
For this, Prabowo awarded Bill Gates the Order of Distinguished Stars, honoring his dedication across various sectors in Indonesia.
“Bill Gates is very positive. He has shown great attention and extraordinary support to Indonesia,” Prabowo said.
