AI Roadmap and Presidential Regulation on Safety in Indonesia Enter Public Consultation Phase

Indonesia’s AI Roadmap has reached a new phase in its development. Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs, Nezar Patria, announced that the initial draft has been completed following extensive discussions with relevant stakeholders.

“There are seven working groups involved, and each discussion was met with strong enthusiasm from stakeholders, reaching 300 to 350 participants per session. We’ve held around 21 meetings,” said Nezar during the AI for All: Protecting Indonesians from Spam and Scam event at Indosat Headquarters, Central Jakarta, Thursday (07/08/2025).

Stakeholder Participation Shapes the AI Draft

Nezar stated that the drafting process aims to represent the interests of all involved stakeholders.

The next step will be a public consultation to gather input on the draft before it is submitted to the Ministry of State Secretariat.

“The next step is public consultation, then drafting, and we will submit it to the State Secretariat. There will then be a harmonization process with the Ministry of Law,” he said.

He added that the process is expected to be completed according to the Ministry’s timeline by the end of September.

Draft Presidential Regulation on AI Safety Also Prepared

Director General of the Digital Ecosystem, Edwin Hidayat Abdullah, confirmed that the AI Roadmap draft includes a Presidential Regulation (Perpres) component, which will also enter public consultation soon.

“There are two drafts: the Roadmap with its white paper, and another for the Presidential Regulation on safety and security. These two sets will soon go into public consultation,” said Edwin.

Drafts to Be Uploaded for Public Feedback

Edwin noted that the Roadmap draft is scheduled to be uploaded to the Ministry’s website either early this week or next, allowing the public to provide feedback before the official release.

“The draft of the Presidential Regulation has actually been in preparation for quite some time. The study began in February and March, followed by two to three months of intensive discussions. We’ve held 21 meetings with Working Group 433, involving 40 ministries and institutions,” Edwin said.
