Indonesia’s Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) continues to push the domestic jewelry industry to become more innovative and competitive on the global stage.
Key strategic programs include machinery restructuring for efficiency and productivity improvements, technical guidance and design training to enhance industry skills, and the e-Smart IKM program to accelerate digital marketing for small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
“All these programs are implemented to encourage national jewelry industry players to become more resilient, adaptive, and competitive in the global market,” said Reni Yanita, Director General of Small, Medium, and Various Industries (IKMA) at Kemenperin, in a statement from Jakarta on Friday (13/6).
Collaborative Promotions to Strengthen the Industry Ecosystem
Kemenperin also supports promotional activities to foster a sustainable ecosystem for the jewelry industry’s growth.
“Together with stakeholders, the government pushes for promotional spaces and collaboration opportunities for jewelry industry players to expand market access and introduce superior products globally,” Reni added.
One example is the collaboration with the Indonesian Gold and Gemstone Entrepreneurs Association (APEPI) to organize the Bandung Jewellery Fair (BJF) 2025, held June 5–8 at the Sudirman Grand Ballroom in Bandung.
The event was officially opened by Kemenperin’s Dirjen IKMA and attended by stakeholders from ministries, industry associations, regional craft councils, business actors, and national media.
Export Growth and Promising Market Trends
Reni commended APEPI for its ongoing commitment to organizing national and international jewelry exhibitions.
“We appreciate APEPI’s dedication to continuously holding jewelry exhibitions at the national and international levels. This aims to broaden marketing access for our jewelry products and is expected to support domestic industry growth,” she said.
The jewelry industry shows strong potential with positive growth trends. Kemenperin reported that Indonesia’s exports of jewelry and valuable goods reached USD 1.95 million in the first quarter of 2025, a 16.63% increase from USD 1.67 million in the same period in 2024.
Reni noted that national gold commodities remain promising amid rising global gold prices.
“Gold functions not only as a stable investment instrument but also plays a crucial role in developing jewelry products for the global market,” she explained.
In 2025, market demand has increased for sustainable jewelry, technology-based products, and personalized, innovative designs.
“This presents an opportunity for Indonesian jewelry industry players to expand export markets and enhance global competitiveness,” Reni emphasized.
Bandung Jewellery Fair as a Key Industry Platform
Reny Meilany, Director of Various Industries, explained that the Bandung Jewellery Fair is part of the Indonesia Jewellery Fair (IJF) series, held annually in major cities like Jakarta, Surabaya, and Bandung.
“This exhibition provides significant opportunities for producers, distributors, wholesalers, and suppliers of diamonds, gold, silver, pearls, precious and semi-precious stones to gather and build business relationships with various stakeholders in Indonesia’s jewelry supply chain,” she said.
Bandung was chosen as the venue because it is known as a creative city with a strong entrepreneurial ecosystem that supports growth in creativity-based industries, including jewelry.
“This event is an important platform for jewelry industry players to showcase their best works, expand business networks, and absorb current trends and technologies in the global jewelry industry,” Reny said.
The Bandung Jewellery Fair 2025 is expected to support the growth of Indonesia’s jewelry industry based on local strengths and global orientation.
