The XL Axiata Workers' Union (SPXL) has announced its readiness to merge with the Smartfren Employees' Union (SKS) following the official approval of the merger between their parent companies, XL Axiata and Smartfren.
Mustakim, Chairman of SPXL, emphasized that the collaboration between the two unions will be crucial for ensuring a smooth integration process under a single parent entity.
“We hope that by fostering a positive and synergistic collaboration between SPXL and SKS, we can collectively support the integration of these two companies, particularly in harmonizing human resources and corporate culture,” Mustakim stated during a joint iftar event attended by SKS board members and Aspek Indonesia representatives on March 12, 2025.
Held at a restaurant near Istiqlal Mosque in Jakarta, the event served as a platform for both union leaders and Aspek Indonesia executives to strengthen their bonds in a warm and collaborative atmosphere.
Echoing Mustakim’s sentiments, SKS Chairman Hendro affirmed their commitment to aligning with SPXL to back the merger. “We are ready to merge according to the directives of our parent company. XL Axiata will act as the surviving entity, while the newly formed XL Smart will be the foundation for this integration,” Hendro remarked.
He added that this union merger aims to create strategic synergy, ultimately benefiting employees by enhancing their welfare and work-related benefits.
Rusdi, President of Aspek Indonesia, praised the proactive steps taken by SPXL and SKS, viewing the merger as a strategic move. “As fellow members of Aspek Indonesia, this union merger marks an important milestone. It’s a pivotal first step in supporting the company's programs and objectives,” Rusdi commented.
He stressed that the company’s success would directly impact employee welfare, urging the unions to become strategic partners for the company, contributing positively to the achievement of corporate goals.
Additionally, Rusdi highlighted the importance of carrying out the merger with a spirit of unity to achieve long-term goals, including drafting a Collective Labor Agreement (PKB) in the future.
The iftar event concluded on a note of optimism, with hopes that the SPXL and SKS collaboration would drive positive change for employee well-being and strengthen the company’s vision after the merger.
