At CES 2025, AMD took the spotlight with the announcement of its two flagship Ryzen 9000-series X3D processors: the Ryzen 9 9950X3D and the Ryzen 9 9900X3D. According to AMD, the Ryzen 9 9950X3D offers up to 20% faster gaming performance than Intel’s flagship Arrow Lake processors, thanks to its powerful 16-core, 32-thread architecture and the latest Zen 5 technology.
The Ryzen 9 9950X3D features a massive 128MB of L3 cache, enhanced by AMD’s 3D V-Cache technology, which AMD claims is the secret to its superior gaming performance. AMD also emphasized that this processor provides gaming performance nearly identical to the Ryzen 7 9800X3D, the world’s current fastest gaming CPU, while surpassing Intel’s Core Ultra 9 285K by 20% in gaming across 40 titles.
With a base clock of 5.7 GHz and a 170W TDP, the 9950X3D also incorporates improvements in cooling and thermal management, allowing it to maintain high performance without overheating. Despite the increase in power consumption, AMD suggests that this additional power is well worth it, offering a balance between incredible gaming performance and powerful creator workloads.
Alongside the Ryzen 9 9950X3D, AMD also introduced the Ryzen 9 9900X3D, featuring 12 cores and 24 threads. With 140MB of cache and a 5.5 GHz boost clock, the 9900X3D is poised to provide an excellent mix of gaming and productivity performance.
Although AMD did not reveal specific pricing yet, the two chips are expected to be available in March 2025, potentially offering a solution for gamers and content creators alike.
These processors represent a bold step forward for AMD, not only improving gaming performance but also providing the necessary boost for content creation tasks. With their new chips, AMD seems ready to continue its momentum in the high-performance CPU market, taking on Intel’s flagship processors head-on.
