Banyuwangi, a regency in East Java, Indonesia, is gaining national recognition for its innovative agricultural programs that attract young farmers and boost organic rice production. Deputy Agriculture Minister Sudaryono recently commended Banyuwangi's efforts during a visit to the Sirtanio Organic Indonesia facility in Singojuruh District. He noted that the region's agrarian nature, combined with its innovative approaches, has successfully engaged the younger generation in agriculture.

Sirtanio Organic Indonesia stands out as a key player in this success, producing organic rice varieties that have penetrated both domestic and international markets. Their products are available in 18,000 supermarkets across Indonesia and are exported to countries like the United States, China, and Italy. The company's commitment to maintaining high-quality standards is evident through certifications from relevant authorities, ensuring that their organic rice meets global demands.

A significant factor contributing to this achievement is the active involvement of young farmers. Approximately 9,000 young individuals from Banyuwangi participate in the Ministry of Agriculture's Youth Entrepreneur and Employment Support Services (YESS) program, which aims to empower youth in the agricultural sector. Banyuwangi's rapid progress in this program highlights the region's dedication to fostering a new generation of farmers.

The local government's initiatives, such as the "Jagoan Tani" incubation program, further support young farmers by providing training and resources to develop sustainable agricultural practices. Banyuwangi also promotes integrated farming systems that emphasize organic cultivation, recognizing the growing market demand and economic benefits of organic products.

For instance, the System of Rice Intensification (SRI) has been implemented to enhance rice yields while reducing the need for chemical inputs. Collaborations with private sector entities, such as the partnership between Bulog and Pandawa Agri Indonesia, have also played a crucial role in supporting farmers. The Mitra Tani Program, launched in Banyuwangi, focuses on improving access to agricultural resources, offering production financing, and providing training on sustainable farming methods.
